We're expecting our first. We have a list but am having a moment of- what if we haven't thought of the perfect name?!

We'd love a bible name, but not Ruth/Esther etc, and we are very very picky as both teachers.

I'll give you some of our ideas so you get the gist of what we've liked so far!

Any suggestions very very welcome :)

Damaris
Leila
Athena
Nia
Emmelise
Anais
Israel

I love Damaris. I met a beautiful woman named Damaris at a wedding years ago. She came on her own, and I’ll never forget her, because she was so beautiful, intelligent, fun and confident. The name suited her perfectly. But I do remember a somewhat hopeless male pal, who was rather taken with her, announcing, “I’m amorous for Damaris!” repeatedly throughout the evening.

Haha @Orphlids I love this story!
How did she pronounce her name? Have heard different ways..

Charis would definitely be on my list if I was having any more

Amelia is the prettiest name ever.

Orphlids · 16/04/2020 16:03

DAM-ah-riss. I’d never heard it before. After meeting her, my partner and I added it to our list of names for future babies. To be honest, I think we all felt a bit amorous for Damaris! I also like Amaris, which is Hebrew for promised by God, I think. But I worry that will be misheard as amorous.

Ellmau · 16/04/2020 16:26

Damaris is really beautiful and unusual.

There are many unusual biblical girl's names. I always think that when a name has a real meaning, it is more special for the child when they are older. BTW, Damaris means gentle calf.

Here are a few:
Neriah - light; lamp of the Lord
Junia - youthful
Adina - delightful and luxurious, full of finery
Bernice - bringer of victory
Drusilla - watered by the dew
Neri - my light
Jemima - handsome as a day
