What do you all think of Xanthe, pronounced Zan-thee?

I really like it!

BeMoreZenLike · 05/05/2020 19:40

LOVE

Candy150 · 05/05/2020 19:51

It’s a lovely name.

LuxLuxLux84 · 05/05/2020 20:04

It’s greek. It means yellow haired I believe.

pollyhampton · 05/05/2020 20:13

We have a yellow haired Xanthe 🙂. Had some great spellings over the years!

Cosyblanky · 05/05/2020 20:17

Love the name. Considered it for DD but there's a cousin in DHs family called that, so couldn't use it.

onlyreadingneverposting8 · 05/05/2020 21:06

I have a nearly 19 yr old Xanthe (my eldest dc). Still love the name.

Spirali · 06/05/2020 08:07

I love it so much!

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 06/05/2020 08:09

I met a Xanthe on a holiday in Greece once (she was from Milton Keynes though 😁) - she was an absolute poppet. If she was a shouty nightmare it may have altered my fandom of it as a name 🤣

It’s a gorgeous name and very elegant. I’ve always loved it.

Edenember · 06/05/2020 16:37

It’s lovely and on my list, definitely one of the wackier ones on my list but the ‘wackiness’ is only really imparted by the X initial, I think it’s known enough for everyone to know how to say and spell it.

mogtheexcellent · 06/05/2020 16:40

My doctor Is a xanthe. Shes nice.

SansaSnark · 06/05/2020 18:19

I like it as a name, but from a friend who has an "X" name, apparently having one is tricky and X is the letter often left out of novelty key rings etc.

That said, I do think it is a lovely name, and one most people can have a stab at pronouncing (they may mispell it, though).

bridgetreilly · 06/05/2020 22:57

@zscaler You're thinking of Ianthe, not Xanthe. Although Ianthe is usually Eye-an-the not Ee-an-the.

emptyplinth · 06/05/2020 23:05

Love the name, it was on our shortlist for DD.

Pemba · 07/05/2020 12:27

I quite like it, classic but quirky and unusual.

iloveyoubutilovememore · 07/05/2020 12:28

No way. Sorry!

Thisismytimetoshine · 07/05/2020 12:33

Not mad about it...

But I'm always amused by the posters who gush I know one who is stunningly beautiful and kind, go for it!! or Everyone I've ever met with that name was clever and rich, do it!! as if they were ordering a predefined set of characteristics for the child instead of giving them a name 🤪
If you like the sound of a name, use it. No other reason.

I think we should start subverting this trend!

OP, I knew a Xanthe and she was hit by a meteorite! Just don't do it.
