I like it but I think it has got quite popular with the pullman books being more well known.

Littlepond · 13/04/2020 10:47

Makes me think of Lycra

FunnyInjury · 13/04/2020 10:47

I love it Smile she will be an adventurer Grin

I like it. I definitely don't hate it, I
can't say I lovvve it (but that's to be expected with every name - some will hate, some will love, some will like, some will feel meh about it). To me it's simple, short and sweet.

I went to school with someone called Lyris and it instantly made me think of her. She was a popular and likeable character at our school.

I love it and I adore the Philip Pullman associations as she is an amazing character. Much prefer it to Lara too.

Whatsyourflava · 13/04/2020 10:56

Love it!
Love Delilah too.

Emthebaker · 13/04/2020 11:58

Love it!

Sorry, not a fan. I too think of Lycra or Liar. Until the Irish girl Lyra McKee was shot recently, I'd never heard of it. Not a nice association IMO. I also think it could be mispronounced as Leer-aa.

twinnyone · 13/04/2020 12:27

Liri - sounds like Lear ree, or Siri

Marahute · 13/04/2020 12:32

I like it. Would have been on my girl's name list, but DH not keen.

I do think it will become very popular now though, due to the HDM adaptation on BBC.

TotesGodsWill · 13/04/2020 12:54

I really like it. I know a ten year old Lyra but no others. While I do think it will become more popular with the resurgence of the Philip Pullman books from the tv series, I don’t think it will ever be top 10 popular so not enough to be off putting. I also think it won’t date as badly as names like Arya from GoT as the books have been around for years and the tv show isn’t as massive as GoT.

catpoooffender · 13/04/2020 13:01

Love it

MikeUniformMike · 13/04/2020 13:02

Makes me think Liar. Don't like it.

CaffiSaliMali · 13/04/2020 14:55

I loved His Dark Materials as a child and I really like Lyra. The books have been popular for about 20 years so its popularity reflects the fact that people my age are now adults and having babies.

I agree with a PP that it is unlikely to become Top 10 popular.

I think it's a very pretty name, esp. when pronounced as per the HDM novels.

NameChange30 · 13/04/2020 14:57

I love it. It would be on my list if it worked in DH's language.

Literaryseed · 13/04/2020 14:58

Love it. On our list if we have another DD.

Rewy · 13/04/2020 14:59

Makes me think of Lycra

AntiHop · 13/04/2020 15:04

I love it.

MissBax · 13/04/2020 15:06

It makes me think of a type of big cat.

20viona · 13/04/2020 15:11

Love it

toastofthetown · 13/04/2020 15:58

I like it in theory, but it is very heavily tied to His Dark Materials. The people who grew up reading the books (like me) are now having babies, and as such it it pretty trendy. I think that a lot of parents of a Lyra would be surprised that it is well in the top 200 and rising quickly. I think that it will end up dating like Arya and Luna, because the sounds of the name are very current, in addition to the trend of choosing names of childhood cultural figures.

Ruddle91 · 13/04/2020 16:38

I know a 4 year old Lyra she's awesome :) I like her name.

ACertainSupermarket · 13/04/2020 16:40

Love it. I don't know if it's a 'real name' outside of the books, but even if not she is a strong independent character to be admired.

dorapie · 13/04/2020 16:44

Love the name, always planned to call a DD of mine Lyra (as I love the Philip Pullman books) ... Then by time I was ready to have a baby realised lots of my peers had the same idea and I know two of them born last year ..

So I agree with pp that it has become a bit of a 'trendy' name that may date like Luna. Which I also love, but I myself have such an 80s name I wanted to pick something less obviously 'of an era'

georgialondon · 13/04/2020 16:49

I read it as Lycra
