Alternatives to Alistair.

I really love the name Alistair, my husband says it's not his 'favourite' but then has no other suggestions!
Could anyone suggest any alternatives?

We already have a Henry.

My first instinct was anything, because it's a name I really dislike, but how about Alexander which is much nicer.

ArnoldBee · 10/04/2020 15:35

Alexander?

I really like Alistair. To me it's quite a Scottish name but Henry isn't......
Alexander is probably a good alternative and goes well with Henry.
Or George, William, Thomas?
Douglas / Dougie?

Alexander
Angus
William
Hugo

Hodgeheggery · 10/04/2020 15:51

Unfortunately Alexander doesn't work with out last name!
And I think I'm bias toward Alistair because I met the loveliest man with the same name a few years ago and it stuck with me.
We don't have any strong Scottish links but I also love Fraser. Thanks for the suggestions everyone

I considered both Henry and Alistair. So other names you might like are:
Sebastian, Gregory, Gabriel, Alexander, Frederick and Lawrence

Andrew - it's Scottish too, but less twee than Alistair, and also avoids the spelling confusion of Alasdair, Alastair, Alister or Alistair.

midsomermurderess · 12/04/2020 12:50

What on earth is twee about Alistair?

Whatsyourflava · 12/04/2020 15:46

Did this help at all @Hodgeheggery

CaffiSaliMali · 12/04/2020 16:57

I really like Alistair too OP, but not enough Scottish ancestry to justify using.

I also like Edmund, Patrick and Asa.

Other names on my list are Osian, Tomos, Aneirin, Taliesin, Alun, Aled and Macsen. They're all Welsh though so may not be particularly helpful to you!

IKEA888 · 12/04/2020 17:00

what about the Scottish spelling... Alasdair.
so pronounced Alicedare
