Baby names

Baby boy names shortlist possibly!

Have 2 girls and expecting a baby boy in a few weeks. We have narrowed it down to..

Lachlan
Joel
Alastair
Julian

I think lachlan and Joel are our top ones.
What do you mums think and has anyone got other suggestions? We are finding naming a boy not quite as easy as our girls! Me and hubby like different names that we don't agree on!

Thank you!

@FamilyOfAliens

Thanks for your startling insight! Where would we all be without you?

I'll tell you what though, I think Joel is pretty damned popular more so than Jonah. But what do I know? Don't bother to answer.

Has this helped narrow down shortlist @northwest18

Absolutely love Lachlan - very popular in Australia but not so much here in the UK. And he could be Lachy for short! I love it x

I've been keen on Lachlan for some time. We have lived and worked in the Highlands (we are not Scottish) but the meaning also means a lot to us too. The girls like George and Charlie but we prefer names a bit less popular. We also like Cameron but reminds us too much of David Cameron! Had the girls been boys, our possible names for them were Dominic and Alexander. We don't shorten the girls' names either. Only the eldest sometimes calls her sister cesca because that's all she could say when she was born. So maybe Joel is too short a name for us!! This baby naming is so difficult!! And baby is definitely a boy too!

I like them all apart from Julian, which I dislike.

My favourite is Alastair. Classic name that is cute enough for a baby but a fine name for a man.
Lachlan is fine but you might get pronunciation and spelling issues.
Joel so many OT names at the moment. Will get Jole and Joe-El. Some might think of it as a bit downmarket.
Julian - don't like it and don't like Jules.

I really like Alastair, it would be on my list if I had enough Scottish ancestry to use it. It goes really nicely with Eleanor and Francesca.

Joel and Lachlan are nice too.

Don't like Julian, makes me think of Julian from the Famous Five and I never liked him. I also used to work with a female Julian, and I'm not a fan of unisex names.

I like Alastair and Julian best.

I like Alastair and Lachlan best but I think Alastair and Julian go best with your girls names.

So I guess imo Alastair is the winner

I like Julian best from that list.

I love Alistair. Gorgeous name. My other personal favourite is Douglass.

Alastair and Lachlan are definitely the best. I've never liked Joel, how it looks or sounds. Julian is nice though.

I like Lachlan but DH vetoed, it was the name of a rapist on Emmerdale apparently.

@Whoareyoudududu sadly I bet nearly ever male name has been the name of a rapist, fictional or real.

Lachlan- makes me think of the villain in emmerdale
Joel- great
Alastair- bit of a ‘dad’ name but it’s ok
Julian- so posh. Reminds me of Julian Fellowes. Julian would not be popular in the playground

Hubby likes Nathaniel but I'm not sure of it just yet! Yikes, my head is spinning not knowing! I'm thinking we want longer names like the girls, not overly common either.

Julian makes me think of the outrageously gay Julian from Round The Horn, but that’s not necessarily a negative. Also, not many young people would be familiar with that. I really like the name, actually. It’s unusual, but everyone knows of it. I’m afraid I do hate Alastair, I’m surprised to see how many other posters like it. To me, it just sounds like a middle aged, rather unattractive bald man with a boring job, who thinks he’s very important. Not a sexy name. I adore Lachlan. I know a Lachlan, and he’s just fabulous - very attractive, has great respect for women, intelligent, charismatic.

I've got my daughters in on the naming now. We are now thinking of Nathaniel Joseph. This naming business is giving me many grey hairs!!
