I wrote a post earlier asking for names to go with our DS1, Kit. Bodhi came up and we love it!

I appreciate it is a Sanskrit name but what are your feelings about the alternative spellings?

Bodhi
Bodie
Bodi
Bode

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Not keen, think it sounds odd with Kit.

soupforbrains · 02/04/2020 19:46

I really dislike it but it’s becoming very trendy now so just be aware that whatever spelling you choose your child won’t be as ‘unique’ as you are hoping.

Boireannachlaidir · 02/04/2020 19:46

Awful. Sorry you did ask.

Bodie83Nahla · 02/04/2020 19:55

Bodhi x x

Bezalelle · 02/04/2020 22:43

Cringe.

123Dancewithme · 02/04/2020 23:02

Brodie would be much better

PhoenixBuchanan · 03/04/2020 01:49

Bode is really only Bode Miller, the American skier. Outside the US it's not known as a name at all. Bodhi is the usual spelling, I'd go with that.

HPLikecraft · 03/04/2020 02:33

I really like Bodhi! I love Kit, too... two very cool names you’ve come up with😊

MrsTerryPratchett · 03/04/2020 02:35

I like Brodie! Nice Scottish name.

Much better.

Unless you're devoted Buddhists. Are you? I wouldn't call my child Mohammed or Jesus either.

DoctorBambino · 03/04/2020 07:30

Bodie and Bodi look like they would be said 'body'
Bode, I would automatically read bode as in abode

What's wrong with Bodhi?

DoctorBambino · 03/04/2020 07:31

Bodhi and Kit also have very different energy levels as names in my mind.. if thay makes any sense!

PlantPotting · 03/04/2020 10:29

Love the name Bodhi

florascotia2 · 03/04/2020 10:43

I'm afraid I agree with previous poster who suggested that - unless you are a Buddhist or of Buddhist heritage - it risks seeming culturally insensitive. Bodhi is a religious term with deep and complex meanings.

But I'm not a Buddhist. It would be interestiing to hear what a Buddhist person thinks.

Flymetothestars · 03/04/2020 11:06

@florascotia2 that’s interesting. Am going to give this more thought . For me, the name is now top 200 so whilst it’s fairly unusual, it’s common enough that it wouldn’t be seen as offensive as it’s become a name in its own right. Same thing as has happened with Jude. I know some say it’s not appropriate and I certainly listen to all opinions, but the name is a top 50 name now. It’s so mainstream. It’s just become another name to pick.

daisypond · 03/04/2020 16:15

What could be seen as offensive about the name Jude?

bridgetreilly · 03/04/2020 17:47

It's German for Jewish.

daisypond · 03/04/2020 17:50

Well, yes, but in English it’s a Bible name and one of the books of the New Testament.

bridgetreilly · 03/04/2020 18:20

Right. I'm not offended by it, but that's why some people are.

Baileystruffle · 03/04/2020 18:38

Bodhi is the name of a main evil vampiric character from Baldurs Gate 2. Just so you know. I like it though

Astronica · 04/04/2020 00:28

I dislike it but spell it Bodhi if you're going to use it. Brodie, as a pp said, is a better choice.

CodenameVillanelle · 04/04/2020 19:57

It's cringe. Brodie however is very cool.

glitterbiscuits · 04/04/2020 20:03

My friends cat, a British Blue, is called Bhodi. I thought it was pretentious.
The cat is lazy too.
