Name for second son

We have plenty of time to contemplate names as our second son together isn't due until August. Total surprise for us, our DS is 7 and my DH has a DS 15 and DD 12!

However, it felt easier the first time round and we were both agreed quite quickly on our DS name of Alexander Samuel. He is definitely an Alex and would never introduce himself as Alexander. So this time round I didn't want to name the next baby a name and only use the pet version. But there is one name I'm really sold on and that is Nathaniel, but I see a shortened version being used quite quickly!

These are the names on our list currently, what are your thoughts? :

Nathaniel
Eli
Sebastian
Theo
Noah

I really like Nathaniel

Jossina · 01/04/2020 04:30

Most Sebastians I know go by Sebastian not Seb or Sebby etc. If you insist on it I think Nathaniel can always be called Nathaniel. Though he may want to be called Baz or Thanny for all I know. And Alexander may turn into a Xan in the coming years. He will no doubt be thankful for the opportunity to choose though.

I know 2 Sebastians, one is Seb, the other is Sebby.
You can insist as much as you like, but once they are at school, it will be out of your control.

I love Nathaniel. I know one who is an adult and is called Nathaniel by his wife and Naff by his friends (it's affectionate!) But I love Nate or Nath.

I think people, mostly boys, get shortened names depending on their personalities. So James will stay James if he is quite a serious person but get Jamie if he is more fun and laid back.
Adults were Richard, Rick, Rickie, Dick, Dickie, Rich depending on how friendly you were with them and what their personalities were. I know Richards, Dicks, and Ricks and I can see why each has that name.

So DS2 arrived at 1.06 am yesterday and remains nameless! I'm not convinced that he is any of the names on our original list. Currently we are considering:

Sebastian Vincent
Elliott Vincent

Just not sure, opinions please?

Congratulations both names are lovely but are 3 syllables same as your other son so might get shortened.

I love Eli and Ellis. Shame Eli is off the list.

How about Tristan?
Christopher nn Kit (but conscious you don't like nicknames)
Curtis
Miles
Sidney

LarkDescending · 10/08/2020 00:53

I like Sebastian Vincent. Congratulations!

Mammyloveswine · 10/08/2020 00:55

I have both an Eli (Elijah Jude) and a Noah so those are my favourites!

Singalonggong · 10/08/2020 00:57

Congrats! Sebastian by a mile!

Mammyloveswine · 10/08/2020 00:59

Enough4me · 10/08/2020 01:01

Alex and Elliott work well together.

VenusClapTrap · 10/08/2020 09:22

Congratulations. Love Sebastian.

Flappingflamingo · 10/08/2020 09:28

Congratulations! I love both but I think elliot wins it slightly for me

123Dancewithme · 10/08/2020 09:37

Congrats! Definitely Sebastian Vincent!

If you do go with Elliot, I’d spell it this way with just one t.

finallychangedmyusername · 11/08/2020 22:19

Congrats! Elliott is great and goes brilliantly with Alexander. Or, another suggestion, Nicholas?

MikeUniformMike · 11/08/2020 23:28

Congratulations!

Elliott Sebastian? Not keen on Vincent, sorry.
