Personally, I really dislike it. To me, it's just ugly and clunky, but if you like it that's all that matters.

No

No, only heard of the boxer.

PeskyRooks · 17/03/2020 16:33

I really like it! The only one I can think of is Pretty Boy Floyd a dodgy glam rock band named after an outlaw I think.

Imonlymoominafterall · 17/03/2020 17:09

Is he pink?

ellanwood · 17/03/2020 17:15

Not keen personally. It's a surname, like Hunter, Mason etc. But my DS has a name that is regularly trashed on MN baby boards and I love it. Go with what you like.

Tifsy · 17/03/2020 17:19

@Imonlymoominafterall probably will be when he comes out lol!

I actually think it’s really cool. It has a kind of hipster feel.

midsomermurderess · 17/03/2020 19:12

'Go get em Floyd'. A 1970's ad for Toffos.

Punkatheart · 17/03/2020 19:13

It's a very American hillbilly name so...no.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 17/03/2020 19:14

Love it, we've got a little Floyd at school and, while it took me a little by surprise, it's a great name

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 17/03/2020 19:21

I know a slightly older boy called Floyd - his mum is a huge PF fan. It's unusual as a first name, but it doesn't sound out of place.

I may be mistaken, but I'm guessing it arose as a variation/mishearing of Lloyd (when pronounced the Welsh way). Lloyd is a less common but by no means unfamiliar name - although most people outside Wales usually just pronounce it as 'Loyd'.

Cissyandflora · 17/03/2020 19:26

Reading this - quite short- thread, I’ve gone from thinking, that’s a truly awful name to thinking, actually that could be quite cool! Would depend on the way he looks.

Tifsy · 17/03/2020 19:26

Thanks everyone! Seems a very marmite name! xx

I like it.

CatkinToadflax · 18/03/2020 12:47

Makes me think of Keith Floyd and his constant flow of red wine whilst cooking! Not a bad association!

Lllot5 · 18/03/2020 12:49

No not for me.

GlamGiraffe · 18/03/2020 12:50

No.

ToastyFingers · 18/03/2020 12:57

It struck me as unusual at first, but I actually I don't mind it.

Whatsyourflava · 18/03/2020 15:43

Surname . Like hunter and Jackson. Some people will assume downmarket. Others will like it xx

Staffori · 19/03/2020 00:58

The only Floyd I've ever known is in his early sixties now. I quite like it though.

Tifsy · 19/03/2020 13:55

I've only ever met one also, there was a Floyd in my school going back 20 years now, it didn't seem odd though x
