HELP need inspiration for GIRLS name

Nova324 · 16/03/2020 16:40

OK so Im now 34weeks+ and we have no name for baby girl yet. In fact baby no name is starting to sound quite good to me!

anyway I'm so sick of looking up names and just seeing the same thing all the time. I was thinking maybe we could just get a list up of things we 'like' and see what she suits when she appears but then I was thinking I may be an emotional mess then and agree to something I dont actually like at all.

we did like Freya but I feel like its becoming so popular..
I dont want something WAYYY out there but also not something thats super popular. I just want something to jump out at me but atm everything is just a bit MEH Hmm

Middle name is sorted tho which will be Valerie and surname begins with F

so please helppppp!!!

When you say Freya is “becoming so popular” that’s actually not true @Nova324

It is a fairly popular name but has been on a downward trajectory for the past ten years and given the trajectory there will be even less Freya’s in 2020 (see graph showing up to 2018- last year we have official statistics for)! What you want to avoid doing is picking a less common name that is actually rising in popularity and so in 5 years time could be far more common than Freya. A name that’s on a downward trajectory is very important if you’re concerned about popularity. Same with names like “Imogen”, popular about ten years ago but on a downward trajectory since.

Freya Ford (example of short 1 syllable surname starting with F) sounds a bit silly. Freya is overused and has passed its peak, so is likely to date. It's nice but I'm not keen on Frey.

You could look at names from, say 100 years ago, 90, 80 etc, or look at grandmother's names, and see if you see something that is pretty, doesn't shorten to something unpleasant and sounds good with your surname.

I don't think Freya works with an F surname, personally.

Lots of good ideas above - what stands out to you?

I like Georgiana best, I think.

I know. It was the FF that was sorta putting me off too. Not sure how I feel about the same letters.

We also have thought about Esme and Mya but I dont know. I just want to LOVE the name and nothing jumps out at me! I like river but other half was having none of it lol

YES.

I've known more than one person end up in that situation. Get a name sorted now, pre birth hormones and exhaustion!

Fraya is nice, and isn't madly popular at all actually BUT it is one of those 'of the moment' names - that's why you think of it as popular. It could indeed end up seeming very 'of its time' eg in the way Gemma sounds like an 80s name, lovely though it is.

Valerie is brilliant.

Come on here for help! What kind of names have jumped out at you so far? Vintage-ish? Modern? Short? Flowery? What names do you really dislike?

Esme and Mya also seem quite 'now'. Espeically Esme.

Think about nicknmaes/short forms too. Eg Charlotte is a good solid and really nice choice, especially if you like the nn Lottie.

Josephine Valerie F (Josie)
Charlotte Valerie F (Lottie)

Names with a slightly Freya/Esme possible 'feel' but less '2018-2020':

Greta
Sylvie
Margot/Margaux (though shooting up)
Saskia
Nina
Anna
Astrid

FizzyGreenWater · 20/03/2020 12:35

Sorry Freya not Fraya!

s3tut0y3r · 21/03/2020 18:52

Violet or Madeleine or Annette
