I love Roberta as it's my Grandmother's name but thinking we would call her Bobbie? What do people think?

I know someone called Roberta who just gets called Robbie

RhymingRabbit3 · 15/03/2020 19:26

It's cute, I dont think people will think of The Railway Children and if they did it's a nice association :)

TFthatsover · 15/03/2020 19:28

Dsis has a Robyn and she gets called Bobbie. Love it. Misses point of thread

DonnaDarko · 15/03/2020 19:30

I didn't think of the railway children. I thought of Bobbie Draper from The Expanse. She's a total bad ass.

You all need to read/watch it!

PNomintrude · 15/03/2020 19:32

I love it, and love the Railway Children so I think that’s a really positive association.

staplegunner · 15/03/2020 19:33

I love it. DD1's middle name is Roberta for that very reason and she's generally known as Bobbie

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 15/03/2020 19:34

Love Roberta. I had a wonderful Aunt Roberta, she was known as Bo. My lovely Uncle, her brother, was called Robert (I know, very unimaginative family) but was known as Nobby - possibly not as cute a nickname Grin

Emelene · 15/03/2020 19:38

I think it's great! I did think of The Railway Children but not everyone would, and it's lovely you've got a family association with the name. Smile

scrivette · 15/03/2020 19:41

It's lovely, I do think of the Railway Children but it's one of my favourite stories so that's a good thing.

DramaAlpaca · 15/03/2020 19:42

Peachbubble · 15/03/2020 19:45

Treescaper · 15/03/2020 20:01

I really like it!

Whydoesit · 15/03/2020 20:20

Love it and what a great association anyway if people do associate it with The Railway Children.

Bouncingbelle · 15/03/2020 21:06

Its lovely unless you are in scotland where bobby/boabie is a slang term for something else....

Bouncingbelle · 15/03/2020 21:07

I knew a little Robi, which was short for Roberta and I always thought that was cute.

ToyKitchenSink · 15/03/2020 21:10

I knew a Roberta known as Bertie. So cute.

123Dancewithme · 15/03/2020 21:22

Love it

Thefaceofboe · 15/03/2020 21:28

Yes LOVE with nn Bobbie Grin

Astronica · 15/03/2020 22:47

Good name and it doesn't matter if people think The Railway Children as it's a good reference. Roberta/Bobbie is lovely.

5LeafClover · 15/03/2020 23:13

Love it

Mrsfrumble · 15/03/2020 23:20

Bobbie Draper from the Expanse springs to mind for me too. Such an awesome character! (high fives DonnaDarko)

I like it OP. Do it.

BettyIsMyFavouriteSquirrel · 17/03/2020 11:50

I really love the name Roberta, yes it does make me think of the railway children but that’s not a bad thing, it’s more of a fond memory and the Bobbie character in it was a strong sensible character so there aren’t any bad associations like Tallulah or Scarlett!
