Help! Expecting a boy in May and can’t decide on name - Arlo or Xander?

Hi all, I’m expecting a boy in May and for the life of me I can’t decide on a name for him. We have a couple of names but nothing that we are 100% certain on. We already have an almost 18-month old daughter who’s name is Autumn so we’re looking for something that also compliments her name. So far we like Arlo and Xander.. previously had Ace on the list but thinking that may be more of a middle name option? Anyway, thoughts would be very welcome for both first and middle names 😊

Love Arlo
If you like Arlo how about Hugo, Milo or Otto

I much prefer Xander. And Autumn and Xander are a lovely pair. Arlo is quite over-used and I don't like the sounds.

I love both but would probably pick Arlo

1066vegan · 14/03/2020 08:00

Not keen on either. They both sound a bit pretentious.

Treaclepie19 · 14/03/2020 08:59

Xander!
I have one so I'm biased Grin

Lycanthropology · 14/03/2020 09:28

Prefer Xander, but only as a NN for Alexander. Sounds a bit too try hard on its own.
Arlo is OK, too

TeenPlusTwenties · 14/03/2020 09:31

Alexander

bingbangbing · 14/03/2020 09:32

Alexander is ok

Arlo sounds like laundry detergent

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 14/03/2020 09:33

Xander/Alexander though

Nonnymum · 14/03/2020 09:37

Xander and Arlo are both nice names. But Arlo and Autumn are hard to say together I think Milo and Autumn are better together.

EyeShipMiceElf · 14/03/2020 09:40

Go with Ace! It’s a fab name.
Arlo is getting a bit overused, same with. Milo. Milo is really popular as a pet’s name too.
Xander is nice and I like Xavi too.

TeaCakeAndCockerspaniels · 14/03/2020 09:47

Xander ! Love it, was on my list but DH wasn't a fan 😔
I know a dog called Arlo so would be a no go for me.

Reginabambina · 14/03/2020 09:49

Arlo sounds like a dairy brand. Alexander nn xander is nice but very popular (I know four of them all unde the age of six).

IVflytrap · 14/03/2020 11:16

Much prefer Xander. I also think it goes better with Autumn than Arlo, and feels like a more rounded name (Arlo feels more wishy-washy and of-the-moment to me). Plus it means you don't have the same initials for both DC, which, from experience, is preferable.

Bezalelle · 14/03/2020 12:26

Xander.

Arlo is the name always used by "celeb" couples who are featured in OK! magazine.

Flymetothestars · 14/03/2020 12:31

Love Arlo

PlantPotting · 14/03/2020 14:29

Love both!

LetItGoHome · 14/03/2020 15:17

Ace. For a first name. The others are a bit bland by comparison. I quite liked the other two before you mentioned it, but Ace is the winner!

Sittinonthefloor · 14/03/2020 15:26

Xander is a bit try-hard on its own as it is clearly an abbreviation although a cool name. Why not go with Alexander known as xander to keep his options open. Arlo, again a nice name but definitely one of this generation’s Ruperts.

ScouseMar · 14/03/2020 15:35

Much prefer Xander.

Arlo is Harlow to me (in my Essex accent ) - that's a place you don't want to name your kid after Confused

IckleBear · 14/03/2020 16:32

Xander!

MikeUniformMike · 14/03/2020 19:18

I prefer Ace to Arlo and Xander.

Arlo seems too trendy and Xander is not as classy as Alexander.

17caterpillars1mouse · 14/03/2020 20:08

I much prefer Zander, though I'd personally spell it Zander.

There is just something about Arlo that I find annoying, also I would want siblings to have separate initials

Autumn is gorgeous BTW

PNomintrude · 14/03/2020 20:10

Xander!

olivehater · 14/03/2020 20:12

If you like Xander I would go for Alexander and call them Xander from day dot. Alexander is a classic evergreen name. Cancer is very current and will probably date. At least when they are older they have the chance to go by Alexander if they prefer.
