Rosemary - dated or refreshing?!

I like it as long as I think of the herb and not of somebody in their 60s! What do you think?

Other options are:
Naomi
Fern
Flora
Freya
Elizabeth
Miranda
Rose
Isolde
Iris
Thanks!

I really like it. Strong, classic and feminine/ natural.

Zampa · 13/03/2020 21:19

My mum was a Rosemary and it's my daughter's middle name.

My mum was called Romy by my grandmother.

Historyofeverything1 · 13/03/2020 21:23

Freya and Rose are lovely.
I was bullied by a Rosemary at school so that would put me off also makes me think of Rosemary and Thyme.

BikeRunSki · 13/03/2020 21:28

I know a 13 year old Rosemary, but she has only ever been known as Rosie. I prefer Rosalind, Rosamund and Rosita as “Rose” manes.

Of your list, I love Naomi

Bouncingbelle · 13/03/2020 21:29

@FamilyOfAliens
I’d love to know your name! Is it beautiful, lovely and youthful?

I obviously didnt choose my own name, so fail to see how that it relevant to my opinion on Rosemary? But yes, it's a beautiful, classic, name and a million times less frumpy than Rosemary.

A million times? Goodness.

FamilyOfAliens · 13/03/2020 23:38

My mum was called Romy by my grandmother.

Maybe she just preferred the name Romy. It certainly isn’t a usual nickname for Rosemary.

Lycanthropology · 14/03/2020 09:25

I think it's lovely. And with so many possibilities for diminutives.

Also live Iris from your list.

Tattyjet · 15/03/2020 20:13

Thanks for all the positive responses, to all/some/any of those options. Been a busy few days hence late reply. Naomi could be the frontrunner then! Still like Rosemary but not convinced I wouldn’t go off it (not ideal!). Thanks and will keep you posted. Love Isolde (Is -sol- duh) but not brave enough!

Dislike it. Fern is gorgeous. Iolanthe would be nice. Isolde is awful, like saying I solder...

Bouncingbelle · 15/03/2020 21:04

Naomi is beautiful!!

Ines was my 'not brave enough to use' name!

LimeTreeGrove · 16/03/2020 16:40

I think it's refreshing. I also like Miranda and Rose

s3tut0y3r · 21/03/2020 19:21

Another suggestion. Violet?

Staffori · 23/03/2020 20:05

Maybe she just preferred the name Romy. It certainly isn’t a usual nickname for Rosemary

There was a German actress called Romy Schneider whose real name was Rosemarie. I wonder if it's a more usual shortening in other languages.
