What do you think of the name Floran for a boy?

OP posts:

It's not a name. Florian is a name.

A florin was a pre-decimalisation coin worth 2 shillings (20p)

IntermittentParps · 09/03/2020 16:22

The OP says Floran not Florin.

Teabunny · 09/03/2020 16:25

I picture Floran or Florian as an 18th Century gender fluid dandy. Sorry, not helpful.

LynetteScavo · 09/03/2020 17:03

What @Teabunny said.

DidoLamenting · 09/03/2020 17:35

The OP says Floran not Florin

Floran is not a name of anything- whether a boy or a coin. Possibly she heard it somewhere. To anyone over 60 whether it is spelled Floran or Florin (the sound is the same) it is a 2s piece.

haverhill · 09/03/2020 17:36

Prince Florian was a bounder.

TenThousandSpoons · 09/03/2020 17:41

I hate it. Sorry.

IntermittentParps · 09/03/2020 17:52

Floran is not a name of anything. Yes, I know.

whether it is spelled Floran or Florin (the sound is the same) it is a 2s piece. Florin the coin is never to my knowledge spelled floran. I don’t quite know what you’re trying to argue.

knightlight · 09/03/2020 18:01

Never heard it before....but LOVE it.

RosehipRuthie · 09/03/2020 18:54

Do you mean Florian? If so, I quite like it, but it's quite a feminine boys name which not all boys would be able to carry (see also Gabriel, Jesse).
If it's Floran, no I don't like it. As a PP said, it sounds like someone mispronouncing "foreign"

DidoLamenting · 09/03/2020 19:56

Florin the coin is never to my knowledge spelled floran. I don’t quite know what you’re trying to argue

Well I have no idea what point you are making.

I never said florin the coin was spelt Floran. Floran said out loud sounds the same as florin.

Possibly the OP has heard the word florin somewhere, which has quite a pretty sound, and thought it was a name.

GaraMedouar · 09/03/2020 19:58

Florian is fine if you’re French. I don’t think it works in the UK.

TheJoxter · 09/03/2020 20:01

I’ve not come across Floran but I know a Florin and a Florian. All lovely names!

TheJoxter · 09/03/2020 20:02

Oh and the Florian I know lives in England and it definitely ‘works’ as a name

MotherOfAllNameChanges · 09/03/2020 20:05

Florian?

AgeLikeWine · 09/03/2020 20:20

Florian is a perfectly good traditional German / Austrian name. Floran is a typo.

Merename · 09/03/2020 20:43

I know a German Florian who goes by ‘Flo’ and I love that!

MamaDane · 09/03/2020 20:45

Seems a bit girly. But I tend to like feminine names for boys. Prefer Florian though.

Just be careful naming your son feminine sounding names and consider bullying.

ihaveaquestionplease · 09/03/2020 20:46

Just, no.

NotTheMrMenAgain · 09/03/2020 20:52

I really like Florian (assume Florin is a mistype?). I don't think it sounds feminine or wet - but them I dislike typical, single syllable 'manly' boys names. I also like Gabriel and Jaygo (Cornish) so my taste might not be typical!

cushioncovers · 09/03/2020 20:53

Sounds like an air freshener

screamer1 · 09/03/2020 20:54

I love Florian.

strawberrylipgloss · 09/03/2020 20:55

It's like you wanted to name the baby Flora but had a boy so cane up with Floran.

TheVanguardSix · 09/03/2020 20:56

Florian always makes me think of some Alpine yodeler.

Sprigware · 09/03/2020 20:56

Quite like Florian, if that’s what you meant.
