Hey everyone I wanted advice urgently. My son was born in December we registered him quite quickly the OH decided on the name and I just went with it at the time. It is coming nearly upto 3 months and the name is not growing on me nor do I call my son the name I just think it does not suit him.

  1. Is it too late to change his birth certificate
  2. How do I tell OH in the nicest way the name is not growing on me :(

Hi, you can change the birth certificate quite simply before he turns one. You can ring the council who will put you in contact with a Registrar and you will be sent a very short form to put the new name.
His birth certificate will have the old name at the top, and his new name will be in the amended section at the bottom. There's usually an admin fee, but that's it.
In regard to talking to your OH, if you're not calling your LO by his current name, I wouldn't have thought it would come as a complete surprise. Often being clear on what you want, calmly explaining why your feeling this way and having an idea of a plan, if it's agreed, can help. We changed the spelling of my daughter's name when she was 16 weeks. It was scary, but best decision we made and no regrets changing it. Good luck

Stick with your principles OP and just calmly tell your OH why you want a change and don’t budge. Maybe use the current name as a second name. If you have no objection to 3 given names retain the 2nd name as a third name.
Do you prefer the second name so you could just switch them round?
Be prepared with 2 or perhaps 3 names you do think will suit your DS.
Good luck

Go with your gut , before your little one realises . I would keep his present name as a middle name so it is not totally disconnected from him if that makes sense .
