So far it's the only name me and my husband have both liked for our baby girl.

I like it plus not everyone lives in the South East so won't associate it with the place name.

I've never heard of Erith in Kent.

IndigoSkye · 08/03/2020 10:36

It's beautiful

30not13 · 08/03/2020 10:39

I know an Aerith. Named after Final Fantasy I believe.

Lovely and pretty :)
Hers is pronounced Air-rith

Mummyeyes · 08/03/2020 11:36

Yes yes yes so pretty! Love it!

LittleDragonGirl · 08/03/2020 11:42

Aerith will always remind me of Final Fantasy 7, as the name was created for the game, and due to its Japanese origin is pronounced aeris. You may find now will the generation of ff7 having grown up many people may recognise the name being from ff7.

RedWineSaviour · 08/03/2020 11:43

I know Aerith from a japanese RPG game called Final Fantasy 7. I always wanted it for my daughter too!

GordonBennett20 · 08/03/2020 11:45

I like it!

I've bot come across it before and assumed it was pronounced air-ith but I still like the actual pronunciation too!

I'm from the north west so have never heard of this town in kent everyones talking about so would totally disregard that point of opinion

erised · 08/03/2020 12:54

Yeah I guess it would be 'air-ith'. Definitely not 'ee-rith'.

We're fine with the Final Fantasy connection tbh. Robin Williams named his daughter Zelda after the game sooo shrug

TressiliansStone · 08/03/2020 21:15
Shock Grin
TressiliansStone · 08/03/2020 22:01

Sorry, OP, we're not being very helpful.Grin

Better you know beforehand, though, so at least you're making an informed decision.

( I actually think Aerith and indeed Belvedere are very pretty names. Just, I couldn't...)

LittleDragonGirl · 08/03/2020 22:06

Gonna correct my ff7 aeris post, before the ff purists come and get me!
It was spelt aeris in the original ps1 version of the game as Japan dosent have th in their languages so "is" was used instead, it is aerith pronounced correctly (I got it wrong way around in my head), and would imo be air-ith if I saw the spelling randomly but I may be bias Blush

I think it's a gorgeous name, but be prepared for ff7 references from adult and potentially children as the ff7 remake is being released this year so the reference to the name will probably be noticed again (as it's a name made up by the ff7 team).

But go for it!

Blursula · 08/03/2020 22:11

I've never heard of it before and I think it's beautiful OP

PepePig · 08/03/2020 23:05

Reminded me of FF.

JC1991 · 12/04/2020 18:40

I like the name as well but have been put off by people mentioning the Kent (I’m from Scotland) and game association.

I first heard it when my gran told me the story of when when foster a Jewish girl - it’s a Hebrew name and means Flower

erised · 13/04/2020 13:59

I'm not really too bothered by the whole Kent thing as the pronunciation is different to Aerith. And me and my husband are big gamers so not worried about the game association.

So far we've decided Aerith Ophelia.

I like it a lot!

Antonin · 13/04/2020 14:52

I would automatically pronounce it as Air-ith because ae is pronounced as in aeroplane and aerodrome and aerodynamics etc.
Lovely name — sounds good and not common. If anyone queries spelling just say “ae as in aeroplane”, problem solved.

erised · 13/04/2020 15:25

@Antonin never thought of that, great solution Grin
