Baby Boy names

I'm 35 weeks pregnant and me and my partner can't decide on a boys name. If baby's a girl we've chosen Hallie, but can't agree on any boys names!

The only name my partner likes is Barkley, whereas I like Albie, Parker, Hugo and Bodhi.

What's your opinion of Barkley? Also any other suggestions for names that aren't common but not too out there either?

Barkley looks misspelled to me. Feels like it should be either Berkeley or Barclay. I don't like it, personally, especially the "bark" sound at the start. It'll either get shorted to Bar or Bark, neither of which are nice. I prefer Albie out of your other suggestions.

Cole
Lincoln
Ellis
Harris
Beckett
Soren
Asa
Kit
Torin
Ernie
Leon
Enzo
Blake
Jago

OP If it helps, 'Barkley' = Barclay is usually spelled like that. Just like the bank. Or else like the place Berkeley (pronouncedc Barkley) in Glocesterhsire.

But unless it's (eg) your granny's surname or the place - or the bank - has special signficance for you, then why would you choose it?

I like Hugo. Albert at a pinch - you could give him the nickname Albie. Bodhi is surely only OK if you are a Buddhist? Even then...en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enlightenment_in_Buddhism

Best of luck.

I have a Hugo so I'm biased, but I love it 🥰 Not a fan of Barkley

Not a fan of Barkley. I like Albie and LOVE Bodhi. We didn't have the guts to use it but I think it is so cool.

Hugo is very nice.

Rocketinapocket · 07/03/2020 21:14

I know a boy called Halley.

IckleBear · 08/03/2020 13:13

Hugo is nice!

NoSauce · 08/03/2020 13:37

Barkley is hideous.

nosleepp · 08/03/2020 13:40

I don’t like Barkley, but it’s similar to Parker so can you compromise on that?.

My DS is Levi, and I get lots of compliments on it

Whatsyourflava · 08/03/2020 14:06

Barkley is one of the worst names I’ve ever heard sorry. What does your husband like about it? I guess the nickname would be “Bark” (like a dog) which is even worse

Albie, Parker, Hugo and Bodhi are all lovely

If you like unusual B names how about Barnaby?

Other suggestions, almost all of which are outside top 100 and on the more unusual side:

Names with good nicknames:

Christopher nn Kit
Wilf(red) nn Wilf
Nathan/Nathaniel - Nate
Rafferty nn Raffy
Sidney nn Sid

Other ideas:

Eli
Ellis
Miles / Milo
Seth
Cole
Otis
Eric
Casper
Rudy/Rudi
Dexter
Blake
Angus
Dominic
Idris
Percy
Chester
Caleb
River
Otto

Barkley surely isn’t spelled right.
Bodhi is naff, unless you’re Buddhist, and even then.
Albie is babyish, embarrassing for a teen and adult.
Hugo is odd in your mix. The best of the bunch but Hugh is nicer.
Parker is OK for a surname-type name. I quite like it. Except it has servant vibes - Thunderbirds- which might be what you don’t want.

Fletcher?
Archer?
Kingsley?

Barkley is a dog's name.
