Hey all

so me and my other half literally cannot agree on any name for our Boy to be. and weve gone through 100's!

But I like the name Cadence for a boy? im in the UK and I don't think its popular here (which I like) but its quite popular in the USA for girls, although online suggests its unisex and girls spell it differently

Whats your opinion on it? can it work for our boy? (I haven't asked DH yet about it, as I cant be bothered for another argument) but id love to know the general view on the name before I approach it.

xx

I’ve only ever seen it as a girl’s name. And then only on Nashville.
No. I wouldn’t.

CeibaTree · 06/03/2020 16:59

If it's popular in the US, it only takes one Cadence to become famous in the future and then your son is stuck with a name everyone will associate with a girl. How about Camden or similar instead if you like the American style of naming?

CatteStreet · 06/03/2020 17:52

Nope. It's a nice name, but I would absolutely associate it with a girl.

How about Columba?

MikeUniformMike · 06/03/2020 17:55

Look up the meaning of the name. I'd associate it with cycling.

It looks like an american girl's name.

It is like Kayden, only worse.

Pixilicious · 06/03/2020 17:59

Awful. It’s not a name.

DoctorBambino · 06/03/2020 18:00

Sorry I agree, girls name in my mind

yatapina · 06/03/2020 18:00

I don't think it's a nice name for either sex.

Ask your partner to introduce himself as Cadence and gauge his reaction. If you/he wouldn't be happy to use it for yourselves then it's not a good choice!

Dinosaursdontgrowontrees · 06/03/2020 18:03

There’s a cadence in my sons class. I have also come across another at toddler group. They are both girls and English. We live in London.
I think it’s a nice enough name, but I wouldn’t use it for a boy personally.

Alwaysundecided · 06/03/2020 18:29

I think of it as a girl's name.
How about Cody, Corey, Curtis.

momtoboys · 06/03/2020 18:31

If that is a boys name, it sounds quite feminine, in my opinion.

user1493494961 · 06/03/2020 18:46

Awful girl's name, he wouldn't thank you.

MamaDane · 06/03/2020 18:50

Ah. Sorry OP, but I don't think that would be a nice experience for your son to have - growing up as Cadence. Caden is a boy's name, not one I personally like, but I think it would be a better choice.
Caden
Carson
Casey
or Lawrence, if it's the last part if the name you're attracted to.

cptartapp · 06/03/2020 19:04

It's a girls name. Sounds very effeminate anyway.

Verily1 · 06/03/2020 20:13

It sounds like kayden which is not good.

Jossina · 06/03/2020 20:17

I don't think it sounds like a "girls" name, but then again I hate this obsession with boys having "masculine" names only. Cade is a cute nickname too. Nice especially if you're a musical family or into marching.

Aquamarine1029 · 06/03/2020 20:17

It's a girl's name and it's awful. How's about Camden? Carson? Caden?

strawberrylipgloss · 06/03/2020 20:38

I think people will assume he's Caden and the " ce " is a typo. I've only heard of a female Cadence

ScouseMar · 06/03/2020 20:54

It's a girl's name to me.

And a cycling term.

DramaAlpaca · 07/03/2020 00:21

Cadence is a term I associate with cycling, it's ridiculous as a name.

When it is used as a name, it's for girls. It has a feminine sound to it.

Cbeebiesrehab · 07/03/2020 08:59

I know a girl called Cadence. I dislike it and even more so for a boy.

Whatsyourflava · 07/03/2020 09:10

I think it’s more of a girls name

How about Clarence? That’s a v v unusual name but always used exclusively for boys. It really grows on you, promise

Whatsyourflava · 07/03/2020 09:11

Meant to tag you @essexanon

BaronessBomburst · 07/03/2020 09:16

I hear cadence and think of the engineering software.
It's also a word to describe the inflection in someone's voice or in music.

BaronessBomburst · 07/03/2020 09:17

Now Clarence is lovely! I wouldn't have thought of that.

Whatsyourflava · 07/03/2020 09:41

@BaronessBomburst thank you 😁 it is lovely isn’t it.
