Think this is such a cute botanical name as well as a spice.

I think saffron sounds more strong whilst safflower sounds so pretty.

Saffy? Flo? Potential nicknames?

Thoughts?

No it’s an awful name. If you think it is so lovely, spend the next month introducing yourself as Salflower to every new person you meet and see what their reactions are. Grin

Sorry, all sound horrible to me. Reminds me of that dreadful character on AbFab. How about Daphne? A lovely scented flower. Can call her Daffy for short.

123Dancewithme · 05/03/2020 23:13

Saffia instead?

BackforGood · 05/03/2020 23:17

Sounds like someone saying "it's a flower" while drunk.

Yup

campion · 05/03/2020 23:18

Daffy? As in Duck?Confused
Daphne's not much of an improvement.

BrightLightsBigCity · 06/03/2020 03:42

Oh, I don't know. Seemed like fun at the time Wink

I'm not keen on it but I do like many unusual names. Saffron is gorgeous though, and other Saffy possibles are Seraphine, Seraphina, Persephone.

Chaiwala · 06/03/2020 07:12

Thanks everyone.
I guess the world isn’t ready for safflower yet

One day maybe

It sounds way to similar to Zaflora in my accent 🤣

yatapina · 06/03/2020 07:20

I have an older cousin called Saffy btw - her real name is Saphia.

Teabunny · 06/03/2020 07:22

OP I can tell you are disappointed by the reaction but at least you didn't suggest Sequoia!! Grin

It's your hormones. Ignore them, for the love of God please.

I mean I get it, I was set on naming DD Heaven Leigh after reading a Virginia Andrews book when I was in hospital. Thank God dp staged an intervention Blush

DropYourSword · 06/03/2020 08:23

I don’t think it’s as bad as some names I’d heard, but if someone introduced themselves I would seriously think they’d said Sunflower with an accent!

BobbyBlueCat · 06/03/2020 08:32

Absolutely hideous sounding.

EmpressLangClegInChair · 06/03/2020 08:45

I think cute is an excellent reason NOT to pick a name. Cute nickname for a baby or toddler, fine, but cute becomes a bad thing as soon as a child starts school.

As someone who’s small & has always looked young (well, until recently anyway) it’s been enough of a struggle at times just to get taken seriously. Having a cutesy name would only make that harder.

Poor kid
