Girls names to go with Rae

Dav87 · 05/03/2020 13:50

Hi!
We are giving our baby girl the middle name Rae, named after my sister 😊 Here are the names we have narrowed down to go with it:

Poppy
Evie
Lily
Safia

What’s everyone’s thoughts? Are there any other names you like that go nicely with Rae?

Thanks! x

Love all your names especially

Poppy
Evie
Lily

Not so keen on Safia

Other options Sadie or Molly or Marnie or Cleo or Elsie

Rae is a very popular filler middle name at the moment, along with Rose, Grace and May. Although I can see it has a personal connection for you. As such I'd choose I less popular first name. Out of your list I'd go with Safia as the others in your list are very popular

missmouse101 · 05/03/2020 14:06

Agree with pp above that Rae is a filler name, and it sounds like an old man's name! My daughter has a filler middle name and I REALLY regret it. How about Laura Fern, Emerald Faith, Evie Fay?

DoctorBambino · 05/03/2020 14:11

I like Rae and it's nice that you have a connection to your sister.

Poppy - Personally I don't like the sound pop so don't like the name but I do think it goes nicely with Rae
Evie - I used to like the name but I have met a lot of teenage Evie's and they all have mental health difficulties.. obviously not because of the name but I just always make that connection
Lily - I like it and think it goes well with Rae
Safia - my favourite of your list 100%

Dav87 · 05/03/2020 14:54

@missmouse101 - I’ll tell my sister that one of my MN buddies thinks she has an old man’s name! 😂 I like your other suggestions though!

Thanks everyone, need to do some convincing of DH on Safia, but I really like it too 😊 x

Dav87 · 05/03/2020 15:05

Sorry but I think Safia will continually get misheard as either Sophia is Saskia (but much more common names). I say this as someone who had a 80s name that constantly got misheard growing up and found it so annoying (think Laura and Lauren type name)

Whatsyourflava · 05/03/2020 15:34

Ignore typo

Sophia or Saskia not is

Whatsyourflava · 05/03/2020 15:35

(Both much more common names) not but

So sorry for all the typos

I get where you’re coming from if Rae was your sisters name.

However it’s so common as a middle name, along with mae.

So i’d actually be inclined to use it as a first name. It’s a lovely name in its own right and a shame to relegate it to an add on.

If you do stick with it as a middle name, don’t hypenate it. Or it’ll get lost amongst all the other -Rae’s and -mae’s and appear common rather than special.

Out of interest, what’s you’r sister’s connection with the name? It’s fairly unusual for anyone over 5!

TrippingOnSunshine · 05/03/2020 15:57

Carly Rae
Dolly Rae
Lottie Rae
Amy Rae
Emily Rae
Winnie Rae
Della Rae
Suzie Rae

Corinne

Dav87 · 05/03/2020 16:18

I had no idea it was so popular!
It’s just my sister’s name, she was born in 1985 haha - only when I’ve started looking into baby names I’ve realised how common it is... I don’t know anyone else called it! 😐 Ha, typical!

Some really lovely suggestions, thank you. It won’t be hyphened with the first name, a stand-alone middle name.

Lots to think about... and then to convince DH! 😊 x

Cornelia
Felicity
Amber
Kitty
Bonnie
Aster
Viola
Emma
Robyn

I think a more cutesy name like Poppy or Evie makes Rae sounds more like a filler. If it's a stronger first name it learns that, somehow.

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 05/03/2020 16:24

*loses, not learns. Ffs autocorrect!

NoSauce · 05/03/2020 17:25

Sophia.

Safia Rae is lovely. All the others are too popular.

HowlsMovingBungalow · 05/03/2020 17:32

Billy

reginafelangee · 05/03/2020 17:33

I would just pick a first name you really like.

No one ever knows middle names. It doesn't really matter whether it goes or not.

From your list I prefer Lily.
