Names are often in clusters though, aren't they? I'm in N Ireland (just for context, because we're obviously talking about much smaller numbers overall) and in the year my daughter was born there were less than 50 babies in the whole country given that name. But she is secondary school age now, and there are five other girls in her year who share her name...And amazingly, when we gave her that name, we didn't know anyone else, adult or child, who shared it!

Yes agree about that @isabellerossignol - you can also check about clusters on the government website (you can see how many “Erin”s for example there were in different areas of the Country in different years), although obviously you can’t predict a total statistical anomaly happening, like what has happened for you and your daughter’s name xx

I just worry that poster’s on here get put off lovely names like “Erin” because other people incorrectly assert as fact that the “name is getting more popular”, when a quick check of the statistics shows the very opposite is true. And we’re not taking small numbers here, the numbers of Erin’s have halved in recent years

OP I’m so glad you posted this as we are now considering Erin! I think it’s quite lovely, very simple and quite strong. I can imagine a successful 30 year old Erin :)

I love it! I wanted to use it but my husband wasn't keen. I think it has a beautiful simplicity and will never be in danger of becoming dated.

In Ireland it's the name of a range of packet soup mixes.

It's nice enough. It's a very expat Irish or having Irish roots sort of a name.

CeibaTree · 29/02/2020 22:18

It's nice enough, I think Aerin is prettier though if that's important to you.

MingVase · 02/03/2020 23:45

Totally a packet soup mix. And manky packet soup at that. It screams Plastic Paddy to me.

DramaAlpaca · 02/03/2020 23:50

MingVase you said that much more directly than I did Grin
