Would love some opinions on the following two names.
For context, I'm Irish living in England with my English husband.

Oran (pronounced Oar-an)
Rory

I like both. Never heard of Oaran but I think I actually prefer it.

DoctorBambino · 28/02/2020 19:39

I really like both

beanaseireann · 28/02/2020 19:40

Rory

Mummyeyes · 28/02/2020 19:41

I wouldn't spell Oran like that. Is it meant to be Adhran? Because that spelling would be okay.

CalleighDoodle · 28/02/2020 19:41

Either Grin

DramaAlpaca · 28/02/2020 19:42

I love Rory.

I prefer the Odhran spelling, but I can see why you'd go for Oran in England.

Going on the meanings, is he more likely to have dark or red hair? Wink

PlantPotting · 28/02/2020 19:46

I love Rory

Marlena1 · 28/02/2020 19:47

Oran

HarrietM87 · 28/02/2020 20:02

The Oran I know Scottish and pronounces it to rhyme with foreign. I’m Irish and have only ever seen it spelled Odhran - love the name, prefer it to Rory.

beanaseireann · 28/02/2020 20:25

Odhran is No. 92 in the Irish top 100 Boys names of 2019.
It's gaining in popularity.
I only know of one and he's nearly 70 !

123Dancewithme · 29/02/2020 00:31

Oran

mathanxiety · 29/02/2020 05:20

Both lovely. I think I prefer Rory though.

funmummy48 · 29/02/2020 05:24

I love Rory.

Bezalelle · 29/02/2020 05:54

Oran is a great name.

Gooseysgirl · 29/02/2020 05:58

I think that English are likely to pronounce it like oran as in orange, whereas correct Irish pronunciation is Oar-un. But if the pronunciation doesn't bother you, go for it! I think it's a nicer name than Rory. My son has a short Irish name that is regularly mispronounced here, but it doesn't bother him (or me) in the slightest!

doodleina · 29/02/2020 05:58

It's so hard to decide! Thank you all for the feedback! I love both!

My friends little boy is Rory but it's spelt Ruairi which I believe is the Irish spelling. I love it x

Odhran. Beautiful name.

MikeUniformMike · 29/02/2020 19:44

Oran looks a bit like Oral.
