Is it too old fashioned? Dated but not classic?

Kind of dated as I seem to recall it getting very popular in the 90s.

But i think it’s a beautiful name regardless and wouldn’t think “that’s really dated” if I met a baby one at all

codenameduchess · 27/02/2020 13:59

I know a baby Bethany and although when I first heard it I thought it was a bit 90s she owns it now (or as much as a baby can).

My DDs name is often referred to as dated on mn though and it's been consistently top 20 for 15 years so clearly plenty of people like it!

bluemoon2468 · 27/02/2020 15:34

Much prefer just Beth. Love this name but DH isn't keen 😔

Chirpychirpy3 · 27/02/2020 16:28

Prefer Bethan

Whatsyourflava · 27/02/2020 16:31

I don’t like Beth and it’s sounds too much like Death to me 🙈

Charlottejbt · 27/02/2020 16:36

I agree that it's dated and not classic. The Sharon of the 1990s.

Spied · 27/02/2020 16:37

I don't like it.
It's dated and sounds silly on anyone be over 12.
I don't think it will ever be a classic.

I would have said it was a Chloe type name...?

RickOShay · 27/02/2020 16:44

I don’t like Bethany. Beth is ok.

Nonnymum · 27/02/2020 16:46

I wouldn't call it a classic. It's not a name I like. But if you like it use it. It doesn't matter what others think.

Rio5555 · 27/02/2020 18:21

I find it a bit 80s. Like PP have said dated but not classic

FoamingAtTheUterus · 27/02/2020 18:54

It's a biblical name........I don't think the ancient Hebrews had kids called Sharon and Tracey somehow. Hmm

Doodlesquah1 · 27/02/2020 18:57

Lovely!

HabbyHadno · 27/02/2020 19:00

I don't really like Bethany as it sounds a bit naff, I think. I like Beth though Smile

Bethany and Sharon are Biblical place names, not girls' names. As such, they belong to the same genre of naff names. Trac(e)y looks like a surname used as a first name, so belongs to a different genre of naff names.

Shock No, Chloe is classical and therefore universally acceptable. Both names sound pretty though.

SquigglePigs · 27/02/2020 19:41

Bethany is lovely, and Beth is a lovely abbreviation. Don't think it's dated at all. I know a couple of under 10's called Bethany.

PotteringAlong · 27/02/2020 19:47

Bethan is lovely.
Bethany not so much.

NeverGuessWho · 27/02/2020 19:53

It’s very meh to me. Wishy washy .. I hate the sound of it.

Nowayorhighway · 28/02/2020 12:30

Dated and not a timeless classic. It’s very 90s.

Quizeerascal · 28/02/2020 13:50

It's not dated, classic but not too popular. Works on a variety of girls/women

EmotionalEllie · 29/02/2020 07:29

I love it

AppleBang · 29/02/2020 07:37

I think it sounds wet and dreary

Rocketinapocket · 29/02/2020 07:51

Insipid

BabyB19 · 29/02/2020 10:11
