  • Eli - not bad
  • Charlie - that's a nickname/abbreviation, not a full name
  • Asa - yuk
-Oscar - nice -Asher - meh
  • Elis - hideous spelling.

Dislike Asa and Asher but rest OK. Elis is the Welsh spelling.

EasyLifer · 23/02/2020 15:02

1 Oscar
2 Eli
3 Charlie

Sorry but not keen on the others.

Hoodygoody111 · 23/02/2020 15:51

Eli.
Oscar and Charlie are too popular for me so they’ve lost their spark

DramaAlpaca · 23/02/2020 16:03

I like Asa.

I don't mind Charlie, but only if it's Charles on the bc as I don't like -ie ending names for boys, too cutesy.

The rest aren't my style.

Poorolddaddypig · 23/02/2020 16:46

Eli or Oscar 🥰

hattyhatshats · 23/02/2020 16:56

Is elis pronounced like Ellis or differently?

I love asa or Asher, like Eli a lot. Don't mind Oscar or Charlie but don't love them.

CaffiSaliMali · 23/02/2020 17:54

Elis is the Welsh version of Ellis (or Ellis is the English version of Elis - not sure which way round!) It's either a cymricised version of an English name, like Nansi (Nancy) or Lili (Lily) or the original version of a Welsh name which has been anglicised, such as Harri, which is Welsh for Henry, which was anglicised to Harry and used as a pet form of Henry in England.

Elis is pronounced the same as Ellis is in English.

Welsh has a lot of letters which English doesn't have - Ng & Ch & Ll for example. The aspirated L "Ll' is not pronounced 'Elle' like the letter 'L'. So Ellis in Welsh would have a completely different sound, as the two 'Ls' would be the Ll with the aspirated L sound.

Elis pronunciation is on the above page (apols if not a clicky link)

Love Asher, sounds awesome.

Eli second though I regret the lack of nicknames.

Not as keen on the others.

Tillygetsit · 23/02/2020 23:10

This baby will be Asa so I obviously like it best! Short, easy to spell and say, an "old" name. What's not to love?

Astronica · 24/02/2020 01:59

In order of favourite to least:
Oscar
Charlie
Elis
Eli
Asa
Asher

ladycarlotta · 24/02/2020 10:04

I think Asher is lovely, so is Elis. Asa is a good balance between trendy and classic (similar to names like Ira or Ezra), so people will know how to pronounce it by the time he's at school. Oscar is very nice but maybe over-popular, depends if that bothers you? Charlie and Eli are both perfectly pleasant but don't move me personally.

PlantPotting · 24/02/2020 10:39

Eli ellis Charlie or Oscar
Great namss

disappear · 24/02/2020 13:08

Lovely names here, OP.

Oscar and Charlie are lovely, but very popular so I would use them.

Asher and Elis are my favourite. (No need to go with the anglicised spelling Ellis.)

disappear · 24/02/2020 13:08

wouldn’t

Spied · 24/02/2020 13:12

Oscar- lovely
Charlie-lovely
Eli- hmm ok
Elis- as above
Asher- err no
Asa-never

Whatsyourflava · 24/02/2020 16:51

Have we helped at all @LeviJeans11

AlpacaGoodnight · 24/02/2020 22:28

Really like Asher and Eli. Not keen on Elis as it's becoming common and is becoming more of a girls name at the moment.
