Ivy, April or Amber

Husband loves Ivy. I like it, but it's extremely popular right now.

We both love Amber but I'm worried it may be a bit dated - it sounds a bit 90s to me.

We like April but are worried about the inevitable "showers" jokes!

Anyone have an opinion on these names? If you don't like any of them, are there any similar ones you would suggest? Thanks.

Ivy and April are fine; Amber has mediocre connotations in the States, so it would be a no for me.

If you like April, you could also think about June, which is a classic name. (June Allyson, June Whitfield, etc.)

I am a teacher (for 17years) and I’ve never had an Ivy in any of my classes. I do know of one little girl called Ivy, she is a friend of a friends baby. I’ve never known anyone called April, but I think it’s a cute name. I have only ever met one child called Amber. She’s in my current class and is five years old. So definitely not from the 90’s!😂I like all these names, but Ivy is my favourite. 🍀💕

April!
Averil is a lovely and unusual alternate.
Good luck :)

I like all those names. My favourite is Ivy, then April. Amber is fine though too.

BatleyTownswomensGuild · 20/02/2020 23:00

April

username1724 · 21/02/2020 00:52

Love Amber, doesnt sound 90s to my ear at all! April is nice, Ivy I just cant get onboard with..

zurigirl · 21/02/2020 00:54

Not a fan of April, as I can only hear it in the voice of the creepy boss on the IT Crowd! But even if it wasn't for that, I don't think I like the general sound of it anyway.

Love both of the other two though. Smile

Are you considering April because that's when your baby will be born?

I looked up flowers that bloom in April and Iris is one of them.

Other possible ideas:

Cerelia/Cerella - apparently means related to springtime in Latin.

Daisy - I wouldn't choose this myself but it's apparently April's 'birth flower'.

Flora - the Roman goddess of flowers and spring

Lissa - I really like this one, according to Nameberry it's an Arabic symbol of rebirth.

Some other ideas since all the ones you suggested seem to be related to nature:

Juniper
Aspen
Maple
Laurel
Rowan

Clover
Violet
Jasmine
Poppy

Clementine
Sunny
Celeste
River
Faye
Ember
Echo
Haven
Aurora
Cassia

I know 2 Amber's aged under 10 and it definately passes my "would I like to be called it?" Test.
Ivy is ok, but very 'now's
April is a month.

I think Iris is pretty, and sort of goes with your other options?

Rachelhaydenberk1 · 21/02/2020 04:13

What about Ember? I feel it's a fresher variation of Amber (well they are different names but I mean in similar sound).

I like Ivy and April too but I'm not over the moon.

CoffeeRunner · 21/02/2020 04:25

I love Ivy & love Amber.

April is the one that sounds “dated” to me. I would expect an April to be middle aged TBH. I also don’t really like the idea of calling a person after a month of the year, although I know June was once an incredibly popular name.

annabell22 · 21/02/2020 05:13

My mum is called June. She's 74 and was born in January!!

Poorolddaddypig · 21/02/2020 05:26

LOVE April! It’s so refreshing somehow. I also love the sound of Amber! Ivy is lovely but sooooo common it is on the way to becoming the next Evie/Ava.

MikeUniformMike · 21/02/2020 09:08

Ember is ridiculous. Looks like a yooneek form of Amber, and closely linked to 'dying embers'.

newtothis20 · 22/02/2020 10:57

I really like April, agree with a pp that it sounds fresh. I’ve never been keen on Ivy but know it’s popular so I’m in the minority - it has associations with weeds and poison to me.

Amber ok but my vote is definitely April

ZoeCM · 22/02/2020 17:02

Thank you for the responses. The baby isn't actually due until May - I honestly didn't even think about the birth month question! Thank you for the other suggestions as well.

April and amber are both lovely. Ivy a bit popular and I find it a bit harsh. My vote would be for April, I think it's fresh and pretty.

MrsB2019x · 22/02/2020 18:54

I love Amber & Ivy, not a fan of April. No reason why though!

RickOShay · 22/02/2020 23:05

I actually love Ember, but think people would always think it was Amber. Same with Noemi, which I think is lovely, but I think would always be confused with Naomi.

Nowayorhighway · 24/02/2020 16:56

My DD is Ivy but she’s almost nine, it wasn’t even in the top 100 when she was born so I’m absolutely gutted it’s become so popular. I blame Beyoncé tbh. It’s a lovely name, just a shame it’s so popular now.

MummySharn · 24/02/2020 16:59

Ivy

Cbeebiesrehab · 24/02/2020 19:32

Amber does sound dated to me.
I know a few Ivys-one of them due to mother being a massive Beyoncé fan.
I really like April.

BrunoLovesMe · 24/02/2020 20:51

Jade?

SalmonOfKnowledge · 24/02/2020 20:53

The only one that is a pretty sound is Amber

April, it has a nice feel to it but because it starts with 'Ape' I can't get past that.

Ivy is cool I suppose but I hate it. Also, whatever is cool will sound dated soon so you might as well go for Amber.

I like Amber, that's the best on your list.

Crookshanksthecat · 24/02/2020 21:21

Not keen on Amber or April, both a bit dull imo. I know a few in their teens or early twenties.
I like Ivy it is very cute and I haven't come across any so far.
