Scottish boys names?

badg3r · 17/02/2020 08:50

Due number three in September. Both DC have Scottish names and would like the same for this one. Long-ish shortlist of names I like below in no particular order, I would love to hear any suggestions for others or opinions on the list! I find picking names so stressful!

Rory
Magnus
Hamish
Angus
Fergus
Jamie
Malcolm
Gregor
Francis
Philip
Arron

I like Gregor from your list best.

I also like Duncan, Atholl and Brodie.

And Nairn.

aquamarine1 · 17/02/2020 19:40

I like them all except Hamish. It's the vocative case of the gaelic Seumas so doesn't sound like a proper name to me.

Lucked · 17/02/2020 19:42

If we had had a second boy he would have been Magnus. I like both Mags and Gus.

Sunbeam18 · 17/02/2020 19:43

Keir
Harris

WaxOnFeckOff · 17/02/2020 19:44

Nicol?

I have a Douglas, middle name Alasdair. Also a fan of Ruairaidh and Angus.

TooTrueToBeGood · 17/02/2020 20:34

Adding to the list:

Graeme
Kenneth
Robert
Wee man

Or any classic boys name with wee before it:

Wee Davy
wee Bob

Chickenwing · 17/02/2020 20:37

Ruariadh /Ruari

badg3r · 17/02/2020 20:44

@tootrue we do already have a "wee-diminutive" at home 😂

I do love the Gaelic spelling of Rory (and prefer the pronunciation) but some of DH's relatives struggle with the pronunciation and I would worry it would grate on my to hear it mis-pronounced.

Douglas nn Dougie is lovely!

I have a Scottish family in my Sims game and after trawling through names, their Son is called Barclay. If you were after something a little more normal, Aidan

TARSCOUT · 17/02/2020 21:10

TARSCOUT · 17/02/2020 21:13

nickblainesmistress · 17/02/2020 21:26

Brodie

FizzyGreenWater · 18/02/2020 12:50

Oh please use Malcolm! So fab, Mal is such a nice short form and it's so underused.

Malcolm Hamish would be my choice.

Magnus is also fab.

Have you considered island names at all - Thorfinn, Sigurd etc?
