Due in a few weeks and can't decide about a name I like due to a comment a friend made ages ago when discussing favourite names...

So I love Harry but our surname is the same as the actress Halle.... Would this stop you using the name?

In the playground he would be hairy berries...
Hmm Really?

I don’t think it works because it is a bit odd to say together. Mary Berry works a bit better but also I suspect that wasn’t her birth name so no one actually chose that anyway?

MummySharn · 16/02/2020 14:49

I really doubt he’d be called Hairy Berries

Eleanor90 · 16/02/2020 15:04

I think it’s fine, but not ideal.

I used to teach a Henry Berry.

Aquamarine1029 · 16/02/2020 15:05

Hudson Berry

Nonnymum · 16/02/2020 15:06

Sorry I think Harry Hallie is too difficult to say. I would choose something else.

Eleanor90 · 16/02/2020 15:07

Or Toby?

Nonnymum · 16/02/2020 15:10

Sorry l misread, I see your surname is Berry not Hallie I think that is a bit of a tounge twister but its OK. If you love Harry go for it. Henry sounds better with Berry somehow though.

DC3dilemma · 16/02/2020 15:10

I like Charlie Berry.

Generally, I think -y -ie -n -m sound good with Berry.

MysteriesOfTheOrganism · 16/02/2020 15:22

I think he would risk being called "Hairy Belly" at school... Choose something else!

MyNewBearTotoro · 16/02/2020 15:26

Harry Berry is fine. It sounds a lot like Halle Berry but it’s unlikely she’ll have enough longevity that your DS’s peers will have heard of her. Harrison Berry also works well and although it will probably be shortened to Harry in day to day use on occasions he needs to give his full name he’ll most likely use the full name with the surname.

ilovemykids5 · 16/02/2020 15:28

Don't see a problem with Harry Berry.
Use it if u love it

elQuintoConyo · 16/02/2020 15:32

Anyone else hearing it in the pronunciation of the vicar in Princess Bride? "Mawij" Grin

I have a hard time pronouncing my Rs, so it's a thumbs down from me.

Nowayorhighway · 16/02/2020 15:34

Sorry but the surname really should be considered when choosing a first name, so many people seemingly don’t think about this then their child ends up with a ridiculous name. Harry Halle sounds silly.

Rachelhaydenberk1 · 16/02/2020 19:17

To me Harry Berry rhymes dead on!!

I like Henry, Hamilton, Henley, Hugh, Heath.

Or what about Garrett or Emmett?

Tillygetsit · 16/02/2020 23:04

I personally wouldn't choose a name ending in the ee sound with surname Berry.

Jossina · 16/02/2020 23:41

Harry Berry Sounds like storybook name. I wouldn't use Harry just because it's so popular, but the surname wouldn't stop me if I really loved a name.

MikeUniformMike · 17/02/2020 19:16

Barry is better.
How about William or Logan?

Aosdana · 17/02/2020 19:18

No, it sounds slightly ridiculous with the repeated 'rry' ending and the same stresses.

I'd go with something with one or three syllables with Berry.

Cbeebiesrehab · 17/02/2020 19:21

I really don’t get ‘he will be hairy berries’ or ‘wouldn’t risk being called hairy bellies’ if that’s all the kid has to cope with on the yard I think he’s doing ok! You can rhyme or think of an association for almost any name-if you didn’t pick a name on that basis you’re limiting yourself a lot!!

I don’t think Harry Berry is bad at all, Halle Berry isn’t in the spotlight really anymore and even if she was it wouldn’t be a deal breaker for me.

kazza446 · 17/02/2020 19:22

I like harry berry! It’s lovely!

Megan2018 · 17/02/2020 19:24

I like Harry Berry Smile

SkaLaLand · 17/02/2020 19:26

Op it's fine, name your son Harry if that's what you want.

Though let's hope he can pronounce his R's 😂
