I'm due in 3 days time and we are going in circles when it comes to a girls name. Boys name we found easy, it's decided! As a frequent stalker of these boards I would REALLY appreciate some impartial input :-)

One name we both like is Juliet but I really dislike Jules or Julie which seem the inevitable nicknames? The reasons we like it are that it is timeless, will work at any age, and is pretty without being cutesey. Another we both like is Isabel, for the same reasons, but we can't use it and besides that it seems to be very popular now.

Names I like, but that my other half thinks are a bit out there:
Laelia
Celia
Celina
Cecily
Callista (nn Callie)
Penelope
Esther

And names my other half likes, but that I find a bit boring:
Zoe
Sophie
Emily
Lucy
Annabel

Our surname is one syllable and starts with a D. Middle names would preferably be Alice and/or Diana for family reasons.

Any input on the above names or suggestions would be SO APPRECIATED! I'm going mad! Thank you!

Love Penelope, Leila and Annabel but spelt like Annabelle (can be shortened to Belle?)

Wishing you a safe delivery x

AudacityOfHope · 15/02/2020 11:40

I love Esther!

Or how about:

Astrid
Harriet
Giovanna (wee bit similar to Juliet but no Jules nickname)
Susannah
Vada
Carly

Aurorie11 · 15/02/2020 11:56

I've got a Juliet but never Jules or Julie, it gets shorten to Ettie

EllaWallace · 15/02/2020 11:59

@richele4 thank you! I always have a bit of an Annabel/le too posh worry but in fairness I do think it's a pretty name... maybe I'm overthinking..

@AudacityOfHope thank you such beautiful suggestions! Susannah and Harriet are relatives unfortunately as I like both names. I LOVE Astrid though.

I've tuaght 3 Juliets and 2 of them went by Ettie and the third was Jet. So if I were you I would stick with Juliet, it doesn't have to be Julie or Jules and its such a lovely name.

EllaWallace · 15/02/2020 12:02

@Aurorie11 oh wow I hadn't thought of Ettie, that's a lovely nn and potential game changer! Thank you :-)

The two Juliets I know never seem to be shortened - I'd go with that.

Other nice Shakespearean names:
Imogen
Jessica
Helena

Other Classic, non-cutesy names:
Katherine
Caroline
Anna
Beatrice
Joan
Sophia
Penelope

Singingatmidnight · 15/02/2020 12:05

Aw, Jet is an amazing nickname for a little Juliet!

CornishPasties · 15/02/2020 12:08

Aw, Jet is an amazing nickname for a little Juliet!

It really suited her she had a lovley laugh and never sat still, she was like a little spitfire and now everytime I hear the name I think fondly of her. Grin

myplateisfullenoughthanks · 15/02/2020 12:09

A vote for Ester!

Have you considered Sydney?

CrackersDontMatter · 15/02/2020 12:11

I like Juliet, LOVE Ettie and Jet.

Other faves from the list would be (in no particular order) Cecily, Esther and Zoë.

helpmum2003 · 15/02/2020 12:13

Definitely go for Juliet and use the other suggested nns. It's a fabulous name.

ginghamstarfish · 15/02/2020 12:13

Tabitha

Mybobowler · 15/02/2020 12:18

Tabitha, Sylvia, Claudia (were all on my longlist, I think we have a similar taste)

Mamabear88 · 15/02/2020 12:20

I really like Juliet! If you both like it i'd go with that. I wouldn't have thought to shorten it. I like Alice for the middle name. Juliet Alice sounds lovely.

EllaWallace · 15/02/2020 12:22

@CornishPasties Jet is also a fab nickname and one I hadn't heard of, thank you!

@Singingatmidnight thank you for lovely suggestions :-) I'm feeling better about Juliet now I have other nn options! I personally love Helena and think it's a beautiful classic but DH dislikes his relative of that name. Men!

@myplateisfullenoughthanks I'm thinking Juliet or Esther now. Sydney is a great name but I know DH would find it too out there!

Juliette and Lucy are the absolute best from your list! Neither are ever overly popular and both are simply timeless

Whatsyourflava · 15/02/2020 14:07

I love Penelope Lucy Emily Zoe and Sophie from your list.

I don’t really like Juliette as it always gets shortened to Jules not Ettie

Other suggestions (but I prefer your lists):

Willa
Imogen
Sadie
Edith / Edie
Margaret /Maggie
Clementine/ Clemmie
Roxanne/Roxanna
Pearl
Delilah
Ottilie nn Ottie
Cora
Eliza
River
Winter
Jemima
Holly
Cleo
Mabel

Cbeebiesrehab · 15/02/2020 14:10

I was going to suggest Ettie or Lettie for Juliet! I would pick Juliet or Ester (nn Essie) from your lists. Good luck!! Please let us know what you decide :) xx

EllaWallace · 15/02/2020 15:08

Thank you so much everyone, I can't tell you how helpful this has been! My mind has been put at rest re Juliet as I love Ettie or Jet as nicknames. Will just have to start calling her one of those from square one so that Jules doesn't occur to anyone!!

THANK YOU!

I'm loving Astrid Diana. Or Penelope Alice or Callista Diane

My taste is more with your than your partners!

I notice a pattern that you both like some Greek names so I'll suggest:

Iris
Iliana
Arianna
Lyra
Celina
Corrina

I'm also thinking about Ingrid.

Rachelhaydenberk1 · 15/02/2020 15:10

Sorry just saw you will do Juliet. Lovely choice. Ettie is cute!

Thefaceofboe · 15/02/2020 20:00

I really love Juliet! Never thought of nn Ettie but it works

DollyDaydream70 · 15/02/2020 20:08

I like Blythe, that would be my personal choice atm. I also like old fashioned names: Dolly, Dotty, Ruby, Nesta, Nadine, Aster, Iris, Ivy, Nadia, Nellie, Primrose, Delphine, Violet, Pansy, Marigold, Sage. And I have two very posh sounding names that I love: Hortense and Octavia.

DollyDaydream70 · 15/02/2020 20:10

Ooh and not forgetting Tabitha and Genevieve!
