Hamish (I also have never come across one shortened to Ham!)

Cookit · 16/02/2020 17:02

Both decent names.

Why would Hamish become Ham??

TatianaLarina · 16/02/2020 18:58

Hamish by a million miles.

Sam is such boring everywhere name.

Know two Hamishes neither have ever been Ham.

Samuel, unless you have Scottish connections. But I'm biased.

It's decreased in popularity a lot in recent years, and until secondary school he was the only one. Unfortunately he now seems to be friends with every Sam in his year.

Samuel is one of my top boys names. It's just so handsome. I've also never met a Sam/Samuel before who wasn't a nice guy/kid. It's just one of those names that makes you smile as you say it.

Samuel.

@Foxes157 yes I’ve just checked the statistics and there’s 75% less Samuels now than there was 15-20 years ago! It’s about to leave the top 40. I think it’s a lovely name and like you say much rarer now. I don’t know any

I have a Samuel /Sam so I'm biased but I love the name, he's nearly 15 now and there are only 5 of them including him in his entire 300+ school year. There is a hamish in my daughters yr6 class (we're in the UK) and just asked her if his name gets shortened and she said he gets hame and yes he does get ham!!! 😂 😂 😂
