Tilly or Tilda.

Mattie just sounds like a boy!

Cbeebiesrehab · 13/02/2020 19:33

Mattie

Cbeebiesrehab · 13/02/2020 19:34

Be prepared for the ‘you can’t choose a diminutive’ comments...but you can when they are small and they are far more likely to go by the diminutive they have always been called in later life.

Tilly or Tilda
Prefer Tilda

funmummy48 · 13/02/2020 19:35

Tilda. Tilly makes me think of a dog.

Disfordarkchocolate · 13/02/2020 19:37

I just love Matilda, it pretty and strong.

RC10 · 13/02/2020 19:39

Tilly is very cute. I hope this doesn't sound horrible but when I saw Tilda, I thought of Tilda rice but that's really not that awful

halcyondays · 13/02/2020 19:40

Tilly is lovely, don’t like the others.

Junobug · 13/02/2020 19:42

I have a Matilda. We use both Tilly and Tilda although she prefers Matilda.

Candleflamingbright · 13/02/2020 19:43

Know what you mean about the rice!!

Mollie3 · 13/02/2020 19:45

Tilly or Mattie (but then yes, this could be perceived as the male y short for Matthew)

Tilda reminds me of Tilda microwave rice

Mollie3 · 13/02/2020 19:46

Oh sorry didn’t see someone else already mentioned the rice thing! So I second that

slinkysaluki · 13/02/2020 19:50

Tilda is nice

Drogonssmile · 13/02/2020 19:55

My cousin has three girls, one is a Mattie

Snoodleberry · 13/02/2020 19:57

I know someone who nicknamed their DD Matilda as Tildy, thus avoiding the rice association. Grin

river90 · 13/02/2020 20:05

Tilly

ThePortlyPinUp · 13/02/2020 20:07

Tilly, I have one, she isn't a matilda, it's a family joke that when people ask if it is short for Matilda we reply no its short for Atila (she is a petite but slightly feral 11 year old)

MrMeSeeks · 13/02/2020 20:07

Tily or maddie

SinkGirl · 13/02/2020 20:19

You can but with one of our twins we used the diminutive for about a week and then never used it again. It just didn’t fit him! Very strange. We now use all sorts of weird names for them, which have come from bizarre places - for a long time they were Filden and Fildino, based on a random typo we encountered in nicu (nothing like their names at all). Names are weird.

I like Tilda FWIW

emwithme · 13/02/2020 22:02

My (14 month old) Matilda gets a variety - when I was pregnant I was sure she was only going to be Tilda!

Mostly she's Matilda.
When she's being naughty, she's Matilda Elizabeth.
When she's being a whirlwind, she's my little Tildabeest.
When we're talking about her body, we have Tilly's toes and tummy but Matilda's mouth!
She also gets Tilly-Beth, Tills, the cats' names, Squeaks and Sodlet.

The one name she doesn't get very much is Tilda.

Mattie.

CurrynChips · 13/02/2020 22:13

Mattie is my fave, but also really like Tilly.

I'm afraid I also thought of the rice for Tilda

1066vegan · 13/02/2020 22:22

I love Matilda and also like all the diminutives.

Strugglingtoquit · 13/02/2020 23:35

Tilly

Peachbubble · 14/02/2020 07:19
