Well we are expecting a boy and have been up about down with names. He's due in a months time
So far we like

Jeremiah

Kobe ( not really after the late basketball player but since it's been in the news we thought, nice name)

Kian ( I'm worried how people will pronounce this)

What do you think ?

Where I live Jeremiah was popular about seventy to eighty years ago, mostly shortened to Jerry, but sometimes Miah.

momytokondi · 10/02/2020 20:26

It's so hard 🤪
Thanks all if you did the feedback. I love Kian pronounced Keyann. But I think I really do need to go back to the drawing board. Jeremiah everyone keeps saying is old. I do like biblical names so religious isn't a problem.

Sorry but Jeremiah makes me think of 'Jeremiah was a bullfrog ...'

SoThisisMe · 10/02/2020 20:40

How about Cody or Brody....close to Kobe?

Biblical names I really like - Elijah, Isaac, Silas, Gabriel.

Or Micah?

Quizeerascal · 10/02/2020 21:16

I quite like Jeremiah but its my favourite Biblical name and it is quite a mouthful. Other names with a similar feel to your ideas could be

Joshua
Patrick
Jonah
Nathaniel
Ezra
Zachary
Malachi
Micah

badg3r · 10/02/2020 22:48

I like kian! What about Ezekiel?

Jessbow · 11/02/2020 07:20

Caleb?

Mamabear88 · 11/02/2020 07:26

I only like Jeremiah

Quizeerascal · 11/02/2020 12:11

Oops I meant Jeremiah isn't my favourite Biblical name

momytokondi · 25/02/2020 19:23

Thought of something
Let's see how it works with regards to pronouncing
Kondwani ( African meaning joyful), I'm African, shortened to Kondi
Middle name Andrew (after my uncle who stepped in when my dad died )

Love Jeremiah. The two I know are both known as Jed to their families.

Not keen on the other two, I'm afraid.

FriedasCarLoad · 25/02/2020 19:29

Kondwani Andrew sounds great, and very meaningful. Love it.

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 25/02/2020 19:30

Jeremiah is (was) a bullfrog! And it's a long old name to be calling out across a playground too (and it is a lifetime of spelling it out loud and telling people "no, not Jemima!").

Jem in itself is a good solid name though- Good enough for Harper Lee to use at any rate!

Thank god you've dropped Kobe - I was coming on to say "what, the rapist?" too.

I know a Kian: Key-an.

momytokondi · 25/02/2020 19:34

Thankyou @FriedasCarLoad

momytokondi · 25/02/2020 19:35

@BuzzShitbagBobbly you're funny but yes Jeremiah too long for the playground. Kobe's definitely out, the OH doesn't like Kian.
How would you pronounce Kondwani?

OP posts:
BuzzShitbagBobbly · 25/02/2020 19:42

I'd say "Kon-dwarni" (I pronounce "bath" like "barth" too, which is probably why)

Chocolatedaim · 25/02/2020 19:43

Came on to suggest Gabriel but I see you have mentioned Kondwani

I think I would pronounce that Con-warny

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 25/02/2020 19:49

Would you consider any of the "attribute" type names - my brain has gone completely blank for male versions, but I mean the equivalents of Precious, Hope - there was a president or PM that had a lovely name (began with C I think)

Or classic names like Idris, Chaka?

Finally (and may be contentious) any historical legacy names - is your heritage from a nation that had (e.g.) French settlers?

momytokondi · 25/02/2020 19:52

@BuzzShitbagBobbly
Ooooh no I don't like those attribute type names and they are more common in the northern part where as I'm from further south
But thanks
Trying to think of great African leaders can only think of Nelson after Mandela 😩

OP posts:
momytokondi · 25/02/2020 19:55

@Chocolatedaim my ex's name is Gabriel
So nooooooo
It's Pronounced Con-Dw-Ani ( A as in Apple)

DoctorBambino · 25/02/2020 20:02

I'm loving Kondi!

DoctorBambino · 25/02/2020 20:03

What about Jahaziel?

momytokondi · 25/02/2020 20:17

@BuzzShitbagBobbly
Yes great names, thanks for the history reminder 😂
Like kwame and Kofi maybe it's a K thing

momytokondi · 25/02/2020 20:17
