Blue for a boy?

Hello,

I’m due a baby boy in the spring, my first child.

Dad isn’t on the scene so the name is all up to me, which would be great if I wasn’t so indecisive!

One I really really love but I’m not sure if it’s too out there is Blue... what do you think? Surname is something simple and very common, think Bones with a J. Does it work or does it clash too much?

Other names I like: River, Jude, Otis, Luca, Sky (is this seen as a girls name?), Bay, Flynn, Asher...

Any input would be great, I feel like I’m going round in circles with no one to bounce name ideas off. Thank you!

I like Blue... I also have a nephew called Bay (short for Bailey) so like that too.

Jude is my fav from the list though :-)

xx

Blue Jones is a cool name, but those initials. Shock

nachthexe · 09/02/2020 04:02

I knew a Blue. My friend’s husband. His middle name was Sky (really). Lovely gentle man. Assume hippy parents, but no idea.

wellyjin · 09/02/2020 04:12

Blues clues. Bj initials. I think it is quite a cool sounding name and Navy is on the rise, for girls.

Momto2girlies · 09/02/2020 04:25

I love the name Blue.... Not sure it goes with your last name though.... Asher sounds nice with your surname. And so does Raven, that's very different and soo cool. Raven Bones with a J. It's entirely up to OP, you will find a name and it will stick. You will just stumble upon something you love. I did. My girl's are Delylah Rose and Tallulah Pearl 💕

drigon · 09/02/2020 04:30

Weird, but I don't mind it actually.

haplessharry · 09/02/2020 04:56

What about Beau instead?

TobyeBella · 09/02/2020 05:13

Don't have the initials BJ!

OhWellThatsJustGreat · 09/02/2020 05:17

I think Blue is cute.
What about Greyson, you could call him Grey as a nickname if it's colours you like?

Philipippa · 09/02/2020 07:47

Thanks everyone, some of these comments are very harsh but I appreciate you taking the time. Hadn’t thought of BJ, that does put me off. I love Indigo or just Indy but thought it was too close to Indiana Jones.

River is probably my other favourite, or Flynn (and Quinn is nice too).

I teach a Blue and he's very cool!

goldenorbspider · 09/02/2020 07:56

I like it but wouldn't use it myself.

eyesbiggerthanstomach · 09/02/2020 07:57

Please no.

River Jude Otis Luca are much better.

PlantPotting · 09/02/2020 08:55

Yeah Bj initials could cause a lot of problems, shame as I quite like Blue

A little too Beyonce-sequel maybe?

PlantPotting · 09/02/2020 08:55

If you like colours how about Gray

PlantPotting · 09/02/2020 08:56

Or Grey

CornforthWhite · 09/02/2020 09:04

I know a girl called Blue. To me it’s more a girls name. Don’t do it.

EmmiJay · 09/02/2020 09:25

My DD's last two initials have B.J and I can assure you nobody has mentioned it (to my face anyway) and shes not been tornented at school for it🙄

Ginbauble · 09/02/2020 09:46

Don't like Blue at all.

Like jude, Flynn and Asher

Emelene · 09/02/2020 09:47

Blue Ivy is Beyoncé's daughter? I prefer your other choices.

JohnnyJohnnyYesPapa · 09/02/2020 10:18

I know a boy called Blue but not keen on it sorry op

I would assume Sky is a girls name but spelt Skye

Asher is nice

marshallrubblechaserockyzoomer · 09/02/2020 19:38

I love River, Otis, Bay and I adore Blue, I'm considering it for my next child!

FamilyOfAliens · 10/02/2020 06:57

I know a boy called Blue

Didn’t he have a nursery rhyme written after him? Grin

TeetotalKoala · 10/02/2020 07:03

Jude, Otis and Luca would be my choices from your list. But I'm not the one naming the child.

I used to look after a Blue. It's uncommon, but not unheard of, nor is it completely ridiculous.

People make comments about every name. When I was pregnant with DS1, we told a friend that we'd chosen Thomas for boy. My friend snorted and said 'that's my cats name'. And Thomas is a traditional name that we didn't expect any comments about.

TeetotalKoala · 10/02/2020 07:05

Didn’t he have a nursery rhyme written after him?

And mocking comments like that are the reason people doubt their name choices. There's nursery rhymes about Tom's, Jack's and Polly's too. But you wouldn't make any comments about those.
