Thoughts pls. Sister is Ruby. We have a boys name and seem to have finally narrowed down our girls list to two...

Jasmine is a beautiful name. Holly is quite nice but a bit dated/dull

diddlediddle · 09/02/2020 19:07

Holly and ruby are too matchy (colour red). I like Jasmine and think the negative connotations are old, it's ready for a revival

NextdoorNeighbourIsATwat · 09/02/2020 19:10

Holly is classier.

Agree with the comment re: Jasmine being the class bitch

lilyrayne · 09/02/2020 19:15

Jasmine 🌸 much prettier in my opinion

DramaAlpaca · 09/02/2020 19:45

'Chavvy', 'class bitch'? Nasty. No need at all for comments like that.

Someone said Holly is a classic. I wouldn't consider it so.

Anyway, both are nice names. Neither are my style but I've nothing negative to say about them.

I slightly prefer Jasmine with Ruby.

Dasbouncemachine · 09/02/2020 19:51

Jasmine! I am biased though. Rude about everyone thinking my name means I'm a bitch 😂
I've never met another one, my nn is Jazz which I love but I like having Jasmine as my formal name for interviews etc. Jazz is cool, Jasmine is pretty. It's not a name people forget either!

Grandmi · 09/02/2020 20:07

Jasmine

GordonBennett20 · 09/02/2020 20:10

I prefer Holly!

A few pp have said that jasmine will automatically become 'jazz' but I went to school with 3 jasmines and none of them got called jazz.

(I'm in my 20s so not THAT long ago since I was at school!)

MondeoFan · 09/02/2020 20:19

Holly is massively overused. I know about 8.
Jasmine is better, known 2 before. One was Jazmine though

17caterpillars1mouse · 09/02/2020 20:42

Jasmine

TFSRM · 09/02/2020 20:44

Both names are lovely but I think Jasmine works better with Ruby

PlantPotting · 09/02/2020 21:28

Holly is beautiful and numbers fall year on year so there’s no way it’s overused
It’s outside top 50 now

Lilyrabbit · 09/02/2020 21:34

I prefer holly.

Hate to say that even though jasmine is a classic flower name, the name seems quite downmarket to me. I have no idea why though.

LowbrowVictoriana · 10/02/2020 08:42

Jasmine is cool, very... jazzy!

Holly is both dull and prickly.

PlantPotting · 10/02/2020 09:41

Have we helped at all @mamablondie

mamablondie · 10/02/2020 14:34

@PlantPotting yes insofar as I think there’s a general consensus that Jasmine works better with Ruby? Seems very split though and I’m still undecided Grin

Jasmine. Holly very dated.

Prefer Iris or Violet though.

lilyrayne · 10/02/2020 21:12

I have a niece Jasmine and not one in her year but lots of Hollys....

JollyGiraffe12 · 10/02/2020 23:26

Holly

TeensArghhhh · 10/02/2020 23:30

I don’t like the name Holly but I love the Welsh version - Celyn.

I’m not struck on Jasmine either tbh but out of the two I’ll go with Jasmine.

NextdoorNeighbourIsATwat · 11/02/2020 13:51

Jasmine is one of those names that you hear shrieked across a supermarket car-park. To me anyway.

Whatsyourflava · 11/02/2020 14:03

Holly!!! Beautiful name
Jazz is downmarket I think 🙈

Holly works better with Ruby in my opinion anyway. Both 2 syllable. I like the symmetry

Whatsyourflava · 11/02/2020 14:04

@lilyrayne hollys numbers are falling dramatically though so is much less Hollys than there was 5-10 years ago
