Irish names but not Irish

Ok I have one daughter and am pregnant with my second, also a girl. I am Scottish, my partner is Scottish, we have no Irish roots. My daughter is Aoife, I adore the name. The only names I like for my second are also Irish, would you think this was weird?

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Not at all

diddlediddle · 05/02/2020 12:04

Yeah a bit

tazzy73 · 05/02/2020 12:26

Not at all, I'm in Ireland.
If a child has an Irish name then nearly all in the family have them.
It would be unusual to have a mix of English and Irish.
Pick the names you love and don't be minding anyone else.
Congratulations on your pregnancy.
Tazzy.

Nope. It's fine!

chaos76 · 05/02/2020 12:29

Not unusual at all, myself and my siblings have a mixture of French English and Irish names

Names can just be beautiful for what they are, and not because of their origin

MindyStClaire · 05/02/2020 12:37

No problem at all, just make sure you're 100% on the spelling and pronunciation (Irish people frequently fail at this).

Beautiful names are beautiful names.
End of

Go for it. I'm Irish and don't think we own our names. There are plenty of people in Ireland with English/Italian/French/German origin names.
The Aoifes I know have sisters called Sinead, Ciara, Emer and Orla.
Pronunciation should be fine with other people if your Scottish in Scotland.

Thank you so much everyone

My DS1 has an Irish name. We’re not Irish. My daughter’s name isn’t Irish.

No one has ever said it’s weird.

DS2 has just been born and we’re considering a Scottish name for him!

Not weird at all. DH and I are Scottish but our girls names were Aoife, Orlaith or Grace.
