Amy? Or another from shortlist?

We are struggling to choose a name for DD2 who is due soon. DD1 is named Clara.

My top name is Amy, which I've always loved. But it seems out of fashion right now? I went to see Little Women last week and DD2 was kicking all the way through (I know Amy isn't always a likeable character but she is in the latest version IMO!)

Other names we've considered are:

Ava
Sophia
Elise

What do you think?

Amy is lovely, so simple and pretty. That spelling only, though.

I like the others on your list too.

DancerOnIce · 26/01/2020 22:27

I really like Amy. Also, how about Lucy? I’ve always found that to be a lovely classic name too

namedecision · 27/01/2020 09:18

@DancerOnIce Lucy is a great suggestion!

Amy is lovely. I would go with that!

Batqueen · 27/01/2020 09:25

Amy! Don’t spell it any other way. Meanings of love and beloved.

Ohfrigginghellers · 27/01/2020 09:29

My dd in reception is Amy so it's a yes from me

EpcotForever · 27/01/2020 09:32

I have a name that is spelt with a ie instead of an ea. So much easier to go with the English traditional Amy.

user1493494961 · 27/01/2020 11:26

I think Amy's a bit bland. Prefer Sophia to go with Clara, like pp suggestion of Lucy.

Yesterdayforgotten · 27/01/2020 13:24

Amy is much nicer than Lucy or Sophia; too many Sophia’s and Sophie is nicer imo.

FizzyGreenWater · 27/01/2020 14:04

No, sorry I think it's quite dull and there's so little to it!

I'd much rather be a Clara.

Ava is terrible and overused
Elise not great

I'd go for Sophie (rather than Sophia)

Whatsyourflava · 27/01/2020 14:05

Lucy is a great suggestion @namedecision

Mumbassa · 27/01/2020 14:05

Amy is lovely

Settlersofcatan · 27/01/2020 14:11

I like Amy. Alice has a similar feel to me

namedecision · 27/01/2020 15:06

@settlersofcatan yes, I love Alice! Unfortunately DH wasn't keen though.

I like Amy and think it goes really well with Clara.

villamariavintrapp · 27/01/2020 22:25

Like Amy, goes well with Clara. What about Louisa?

IVflytrap · 27/01/2020 22:29

Definitely Amy. There aren't many little ones about, these days.

Igottastartthinkingbee · 27/01/2020 22:30

Amy is a great name and there won’t be many others about! I have a little Amy and she’s ace!

funnyoldonion · 27/01/2020 22:34

Lovely, classic and refreshing.

Amy Sophia sounds quite nice!

ladycarlotta · 27/01/2020 22:52

I think Amy's lovely - yeah I get that it was a bit trendier at the end of the last century but I don't think it's too stuck in that time, and as a name it's been around for a really long time (Emma Hamilton's birth name was Amy!). Pairing it with Clara restores some of its Victorian credentials.

pallisers · 27/01/2020 22:54

Clara is fab

And Amy is lovely.

username1724 · 28/01/2020 11:12

I love Amy and Ava, both go lovely with Clara

Aebj · 28/01/2020 11:14

Amy is lovely and if we had a daughter that would of been her name . We have 2 boys!!!

glitterbiscuits · 28/01/2020 11:17

Clara is lovely!
Amy goes beautifully and it's classic.

Lots of Avas and Sophia/Sophie around.
I really dislike Elise...it's a bit ...the word we can't say.

But Elsie is good.

Team Amy!

I named my daughter Amy in 2021. We live in France (tried to be quirky and true to my roots with anglophone spelling[
My family (irish] were really surprised by the name - I think many of them thought it was a bit 90's and unexpected. It means beloved and actually dates back to medieval times, which I loved. She is sister to Rose and Grace. Did you go with Amy in the end?
