Baby girl names 'a' first sound

I really like a number of girl's names starting with the 'a' (for apple) sound, but for different reasons am not sure about them:

Ariella - I love but DH says it reminds him of 'areola' 🙈

Aria - I know this word (the musical term) is said ar-ee-uh, but DH suggested it as a-ree-uh. I love the sound of it with the short 'a' but don't want to pick a name that we're basically just saying wrong.

Arielle - DH doesn't like at all

Can anyone make any suggestions of similar names we might like? We don't want anything made up or overly, overly unusual or hard to spell. We also want something quite feminine. Thank you!

Oh we've also had Ariadne and Arietty suggested to us, but we're not keen on either 😕

Arabella
Annabel
Antonia
Alexandra
Amelie

I think Aria is a beautiful name but I'm with you, if you're going to use it I think you should pronounce it like the musical term.

Thanks so much for all of your suggestions! I guess maybe looking at my list of names I posted we really like names that start with a-ree, not just a. Didn't even realise until I read my post back 🙈

I considered all of your choices - love them all! Also considered Arabella. The areola thing put me off Ariella too which is a shame as it's such a pretty name. People out me off Arielle by talking about the washing powder and the little mermaid. And in the end husband decided no to Aria due to game of thrones - I've never watched it but apparently it's pronounced differently on there anyway.

Go for whichever you love most or she looks like when she's born, try not to let others put you off.

@icecreamsundae32 I know, such a shame about Ariella, it really is a gorgeous name, and I really think the areola connection would fade over time. It's not the sort of thing that would lead to childhood teasing or anything - I don't think I knew the word areola even as a teenager 😕 maybe DH will come round.

I'm also put of Aria because of game of thrones - don't really want people to think we named our child after a TV show...

@PullingMySocksUp I also think Arianna is beautiful, but probably too connected to Ariana Grande atm for me 😕

Oh yes Ariana Grande put me off that too. I'm sure she's lovely but yes didn't want people thinking named her after a singer.

BirdandSparrow · 25/01/2020 07:45

Ariadne is a Spanish name starting with ari. Stress on the second A/ad

yellowbusplease · 25/01/2020 07:49

Arianne?

To be honest OP I think you've run out of names now which meet your criteria Sad You may have to make something up.

Or could you go with a name which has the a-ree sound in it but not at the start? Like Marianne or Marianna?

DrinkSangriaInThePark · 25/01/2020 07:50

Abigail?

MrsBertBibby · 25/01/2020 07:50

Ariadne is Greek! Theseus abandoned her on (I think) Naxos after she threw everything away helping him kill her half brother the minotaur and escape the labyrinth.

Her consolation prize was Dionysus.

Oh, if you want Aria pronounced your preferred way, I'd suggest Arya.

OhLook · 25/01/2020 11:47

I sometimes wish I'd called DD Amara.

Clettercletterthatsbetter · 25/01/2020 12:40

I wouldn’t use Aria if you’re going to pronounce it with a short ‘a’ as everyone will assume it’s pronounced with a long ‘a’.

I know an Arienne - that seems like a good alternative to Arielle/Ariella?

BirdandSparrow · 25/01/2020 12:50

I know it's Greek, sorry I meant it's used in Spain (where I live and where it's quite popular)

BirdandSparrow · 25/01/2020 12:51

And actually I see the OP isn't keen.
