We have narrowed it down to four:

Flora
Isabel
Clara
Abigail

Surname ends in an “ie” sound which is the only thing that puts me off Isabel and Abigail (nn. Izzie /Abby) as it rhymes Confused but I’m not sure this is dealbreaker as I do love the names!

Which is your favourite?

I really like flora! I wouldn’t worry about the last name rhyming with nicknames because the two would rarely be heard spoken together.

stophuggingme · 22/01/2020 18:03

They are all lovely names but Flora does make me think of the margarine and Clara of One of Thomas’s carriages.
But that’s just me

I think my favourite is Flora

MummytoE · 22/01/2020 18:05

Love Clara

MerryGrinch · 22/01/2020 18:54

Clara

Poorolddaddypig · 22/01/2020 19:21

LOVE Flora and Clara! I don’t know which one I love more. Impossible choice!

QuintusEstInHorto · 22/01/2020 19:24

Flora!

Krazynights34 · 22/01/2020 19:24

Clara

Flora/isabel

Flora - love
Isabel - overused
Clara - don't like
Abigail - really like, nn could be Gail

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 22/01/2020 19:43

Flora is lovely. Clara is nice too, but becoming popular, if that matter to you. I like the other names, but agree with a PP about the nickname /surname similarity...

CoffeeRunner · 22/01/2020 19:49

Flora - margarine.
Clara - far too harsh sounding a word.
Abigail - nice, I like Abbie.
Isabel - nice but absolutely everywhere. DD goes to a school with a pretty wide range of names. Very few are duplicated within her year group. Yet there are 4 Isabel(le). Also 5 in her Brownie group (not the same girls!)

Peachbubble · 22/01/2020 20:33

Clara

Mandarinfish · 22/01/2020 20:36

Clara - beautiful.

Whatsyourflava · 22/01/2020 20:44

I adore Clara

What I would say about Isabel(le) is that if you look at the official ONS statistics, the numbers of babies given this name has declined each and every year for the past ten years so there’s no where near the numbers there used to be. There’s quite literally thousands less than there was in 2010/2011 for example xx

Abigail is lovely..
not a fan of flora but like Florrie

bridgetreilly · 22/01/2020 21:55

In order, I like
Isabel
Flora
Clara
Abigail

But they're all good choices. And I wouldn't worry about the rhyming thing for a nickname.

MrsBertBibby · 22/01/2020 22:16

Clara
Flora (lovely but margarine)
Isabel (lovely but I hate Izzy)

Abigail : hate it. Whiny. Wail.

RickOShay · 22/01/2020 22:18

Clara or Flora

ladycarlotta · 22/01/2020 23:03

We have a Clara so I'm biased, but I've always loved Flora too. Isabel is sweet but yes v popular. Not crazy about Abigail.

Marcipex · 22/01/2020 23:08

Never liked Abigail. The g sounds really harsh. And Gail is awful. Windy.
I like Flora and Clara .
Isabel is lovely but so so many of them.

PickleBottomNo3sMum · 22/01/2020 23:14

Personally, I don’t like Abigail. Isabel lovely although very popular. Flora is ok but Clara is my fave.

raspberrymolakoff · 23/01/2020 00:31

Isabel there are still a fair few around and if PP is correct that it peaked a few years ago it may date. I like the name just wonder about using it now.

Flora I love and know one little one. Couldn't care less about the margarine. Flora as a name was around long before the brand I suspect.

Clara is lovely. I much prefer it to Clare.

Abigail I don't like though Abbie sounds nice. I don't like the Gail bit.

PattiPrice · 23/01/2020 00:42
  1. Clara
  2. Isabel
  3. Flora
4 Abigail
Bouncingbelle · 23/01/2020 00:55

Clara & Abigail are lovely
Isobel is .... meh
Flora - spreads easily. Not good for bullying when shes a teen!

Astronica · 23/01/2020 02:25

All good names. Flora is my favourite, and also love Abigail. The ee ending of surname wouldn't put me off, and an Abigail or Isabel could use their full name anyway? Isabel is lovely but I am a little put off by the popularity. Clara is okay but I prefer the less-used pronunciation, like Clair-ah.
