Alternative to Luna?

justanothergurl · 17/01/2020 09:38

I really like it but have seen such negativity online and I know the family would all hate it!

I also like Lyra but OH doesn't. Will have to fit with Jacob, whatever name we choose.

I love Lilah. Very pretty.

I love Lyra, I th8nk it may start being a bit more popular after His Dark Materials, but I don't think it'll be popular like Ava or Sophia!

Some lovely suggestions here but nothing has 'clicked' like Luna has!

I'm a teacher so I know kids can be unkind but they can be unkind about anything. My surname before I got married had an unfortunate sound but I found it funny in school. I dont think anyone was mean.

Don't know any dog/cats called Luna but our cats do have people names so I'm not sure that's a reason not to use it. If it was something like Spike or Buster maybe...

Oh dear I think I've talked myself into it 😂

It is, honestly, a dog’s name. It doesn’t go well with Jacob either.

Sarahwenty · 21/01/2020 23:59

Luna is such a regular name now, no one will bat an eyelid.

People call their kids MADeleine don't they without worrying about teasing.

I say go for Luna as you love it and there's nothing wrong with it!

Bluerussian · 22/01/2020 00:23

Luny? Or Loony:-)?

Selena is nice, you can call her 'Lena' for short.

justanothergurl · 22/01/2020 07:30

I'm sure Selena is nice but I don't like it nor does my husband!

Luna has had a huge spike in popularity the past couple of years names.darkgreener.com/#luna and for that reason I think it will become horribly dated in years to come. I do really like the name though! As an alternative how about Iris, or as someone else suggested Selena (which could be shortened to Lena which is quite a similar sound to Luna, and Selena also has a similar meaning to Luna) :)

Go for Luna, it's pretty

Happyandglorious · 24/01/2020 09:20

Luca?
No idea of its origins or if it works for a girl

justanothergurl · 26/01/2020 00:37

Lydia was one of our original choices actually. But it reminds me of an irritating character from breaking bad!

My husband told his parents and my mum that we were considering Luna. Bizarrely, they all love it! I was expecting so much hate because on here it's either a dog's name or a license to be bullied... why is it so hard to name a child?

My name was dated when I was in school, as an aside, and I've always loved it. It's very much a 70s name and I'm a 90s kid, but it means I rarely bump into another one which is nice! My son has a top 10 name which I was disappointed about at the time, but I just loved it too much to change.

I know a little girl called Runa... I love it! She is Norwegian.

justanothergurl · 26/01/2020 00:57

I love a lot of names with foreign origins but wouldn't use them if I wasn't from that country.

For example I really like Seren but wouldn't use it.

Lucine means moon also and you could do Lucy as a nickname. It's very pretty. There are a lot of dogs named Luna.

BlueStocking007 · 26/01/2020 03:11

Lupita
My son's name was chosen from a film in the 90's.
This name is from one of my favourite films too..
Lupita & Luna

Spartak · 26/01/2020 03:23

How about Louisa or Eloise?

Catchuplater · 26/01/2020 03:41

I think Leah is lovely and I have only met a couple, so not overused.

stringoflights · 26/01/2020 04:36

I love Lulu and Lula.

Whatsyourflava · 26/01/2020 07:14

Please use Luna it’s lovely I’m not surprised your family love it too
