... if I like:

Boys names:
Arthur
Albert (Albie)
Rupert
Alistair
Rory
Oliver

(Can’t have William, George, Henry, Theodore, Rafferty, Oscar as these are already taken by close family and friends)

Girls:
Emilia
Henrietta (Hettie)
Ella
Matilda
Florence
Felicity

(Can’t have Luna, Delilah, Elizabeth (Libby), Lyra, Olivia)

What are your thoughts on the above? Both me and DH have uncommon names which we like and are worried our choices are currently very popular. But with that in mind my favourites are Arthur and Emilia!!

Why are people suggesting such hugely biblical names that the OP doesn’t want? You can’t get much more biblical than some of these - Isaac, Nathaniel, Thomas, Matthew, Miriam, Judith, Madeline (Magdalen). Etc. Hugely biblical.

Robert :)

OublietteBravo · 04/01/2020 15:35

There is nothing in the OP to suggest that biblical names are out of scope HmmConfused

Rafael
Luca
Digby

Eloise
Miriam
Francesca

I have a Miles and still think its the best boys name ever.

If he'd been a girl he would have been Kitty or India.

BigusBumus · 04/01/2020 15:54

I also love Jolyon. (Jolly for nn)

daisypond · 04/01/2020 16:13

@OublietteBravo - oops, quite right. Wrong thread. Sorry.

Mum2B36 · 04/01/2020 16:25

Thanks all. I really like Hugh (it’s also a family name) but I think we are going to use it as a middle name because DH doesn’t like it that much (thinks it’s too welsh). I also like Miles but it’s the name of a good friend - not sure if that’s a bit weird.

For those with DC would Arthur and Emilia be one of many in their class?

Really wouldn’t worry too much about the names you like being popular. My name is rare, hard to spell and say. Growing up I would have much preferred to be an Emma or Amy! I also think you have to put the name in the context of your family/social circle. In my case, having a popular English name made my DD unique for that very reason!

I love Emilia, you could even shorten to Emily ? And Arthur is my first choice for DC2

BigusBumus · 05/01/2020 15:19

Yes don't worry about the popularity thing. I have 3 boys, once has a really really unusual name, one is well known but not popular and the other is Harry!
