What are people's views on the below? Our surname is a very simple, single barrelled thing, so nothing poetic it needs to go with.

Top 3:

  • Eden.
  • Yvette - nn Evie, or Eve I guess.
  • Indiana - nn Indie. (Tried to persuade DH that Indie is enough, but he likes the full 4 syllables!)

Others in the maybe list are:

  • Willow.
  • Ivy.
  • Delilah.
  • Jasmine.

DH and I like the them all (I like one slightly more than the others), but I'm not averse to alternative suggestions; just want a name that's slightly unusual but pretty.

Turns out picking a girl's name is much harder than the process was with DS!

Don’t really like Eden or Yvette but love Indiana (prefer India)

You maybe list is ace. I adore Delilah and Ivy and Willow

How about Willa if you want a twist on willow

latheritup · 02/01/2020 15:55

Delilah is my favourite

mintich · 02/01/2020 16:00

I much prefer your maybe list too!

ginandgingers92 · 02/01/2020 16:19

The only thing putting me off with Willow, is that it's risen in popularity over the past year and is now in the top 20 Confused not sure DH will like Willa, I'll ask!

@ginandgingers92 maybe if you watch the TV programme Succession your DH night like Willa. The Willa in the programme is gorgeous and a funny character.

I know a little girl called Willa and she really suits her name. Her mum told me that when she was first born a couple of people assumed Willow but once you see the name written down it’s very distinctive. It suits her so well and she’s never had any issue with teasing. I really love it and if I had a DD I would use it

Loveislandaddict · 02/01/2020 16:29

Not so keen on Eden, don’t know why.

Yvette - I usually, but classic.

Indiana - sorry, automatically think of Indiana Jones,

Like Jasmine from your second list.

Similar names that spring to mind:
Yasmin
Naomi
Olivia
Josie
Giselle
Meredith
Dawn
Wren

Only like Ivy. Dislike Indiana, think India is far more elegant.

formerbabe · 02/01/2020 18:17

Ivy and Jasmine

bridgetreilly · 02/01/2020 18:43

I like Ivy and Jasmine.

If you like Evie or Eve, I much prefer Evelyn or Evangeline to Yvette.

I think Eden is a boys name and I really don't like Indiana.

mamablondie · 02/01/2020 19:46

I really like all your ‘other’ choices. Ivy is on my list! But I love them all

MikeUniformMike · 02/01/2020 19:54

You are naming a person. She will be a baby for a short time but will be a schoolgirl for much longer and an adult for a very long time.

Top 3:

  • Eden. - No. It will be Ede. Downmarket. It's a chain of Bookies around here.
  • Yvette - nn Evie, or Eve I guess. - I'd spell it Evette to get Eve or Evie.
  • Indiana - nn Indie. Indiana Jones is a man. I'd use India nn Indie.

Others in the maybe list are:

  • Willow. - not keen
  • Ivy. - hate the plant
  • Delilah. - Why, why, why? No.
  • Jasmine. - ~Lovely.
Astronica · 02/01/2020 20:21

My favourites of your lists are Ivy and Willow, but they are quite popular if that concerns you. I think Eden (also popular) and Yvette are appealing too - and Yvette is a nice change from all the other Eve names going at the moment, but you will find there are Eve/Evie variant names everywhere.

I love Indigo but not Indiana. I dislike Delilah and Jasmine (an over-used 80s name where I live).

Indigo
Ingrid
Odette
Robyn
Rowan
Bethan
Tamsin
Iris

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 02/01/2020 20:28

Live the maybe list- to add:

Joy
Aubrey
Hope
Nova
Noelle

17caterpillars1mouse · 02/01/2020 21:31

Eden - I like it but it's not a favourite. I think I prefer it for a boy

  • Yvette - nn Evie, or Eve I guess. - I love Yvette, classy, unusual these days. Lovely. Not keen on Evie or Eve though
  • Indiana - nn Indie. (Tried to persuade DH that Indie is enough, but he likes the full 4 syllables!) - love Indiana for a boy, but not a girl. Not keen on the usual India or Indigo but have you considered I grid? Might be to your taste since she like Yvette

Others in the maybe list are:

  • Willow. - not a fan
  • Ivy. - lovely but becoming popular
  • Delilah. - nice just not for me
  • Jasmine. - love it
Hepsibar · 02/01/2020 21:41

Have you thought of any of these?
Verity
Rowena
Elsie
Henrietta (Letty)
Agnes
Honora
Anne
Lilly
Harriet (Hatty)

Swinesinsleepingbags · 02/01/2020 21:43

Love Yvette, your other choices are quite popular where I am.

Barbara?

ginandgingers92 · 03/01/2020 09:59

It's annoying so many are popular! We've got a relatively rare name for our son, and are hoping to avoid the whole 'two kids with the same name in one class scenario'. Exactly why I abandoned my original first choice of Florence.

Yvette (that spelling) has a sentimental link, which is why it's on the list, but it's quite unusual, I agree.

@Astronica I put 'indigo' to DH last night and we now prefer it to Indiana, so thank you!

@Loveislandaddict I do really like Wren 🤔

@Hepsibar I love Verity, but DH isn't totally sold. Not sure why!

Lots of food for thought here, luckily we've got a few weeks left!

We also had Blossom.... bit nervous about reactions to that 🙈😂

How about Yvaine with nn Yvie (pronounced Evie). I know an Yvaine and it's a beautiful name. She's never had any problems with pronunciation.

oneboy3girls · 03/01/2020 12:01

Primrose

bridgetreilly · 03/01/2020 22:22

Blossom is truly awful, imo.
