What are people’s thoughts on this name? We really like it but just worried out Elmo/Elmer the elephant connotations.

Elma sounds pretty to me but I do think of Elmer the elephant so you may get people presuming it’s that and hence a boy

Verity is OK.

Elma is hideous, sorry.

I immediately thought of Elmer the Elephant. I like Verity. How about Romilly?

Most people do seem to prefer -ie names but I like 'a' names. I think you are one or the other. If you like Elma go for it.

She'll probably spend a great deal of time explaining that no, it's not Alma. And no, it's not spelled with 'er' at the end like the elephant.
As a person who has to often correct people's pronunciation and spelling of my name (not Elma) I say don't do it.

Elka is nicer.

I've never er heard of it but it did make me thing of Elmo! (Sorry!) how about Alma? I've met a few in DCs pre-school recently!

Elsa or Ella would both be better options.

I like Verity, am generally a fan of ‘virtue’ names, though.

There was an Elma on Love Island this past summer- Elma Pazar.

Elma sounds old fashioned but not in a good way. I agree, Verity is lovely.

How about Enya / Anya

Sounds way too much like Alma, will spend their whole life correcting people.
