Love it .

Bringonspring · 31/12/2019 08:18

I really wanted Annabel and would have called her Annie. I love it

TheWashingMachine · 31/12/2019 08:18

I prefer Anna but go for Annie

80sstyle · 31/12/2019 08:20

I don’t like it but like Anna.

Cbeebiesrehab · 31/12/2019 08:21

Love Annie! Wanted it for DC2 but he doesn’t look much like an AnnieGrin

Momniscient · 31/12/2019 08:27

Just be prepared for songs from the musical to haunt your daughter everywhere, and adults finding it hilarious to ask "Annie, are you ok?"

FluffyEggsontoast · 31/12/2019 08:39

@youngestisapsycho that’s a really gorgeous shortlist! Sorry you couldn’t get agreement from DH. What did you agree on in the end?

FluffyEggsontoast · 31/12/2019 08:42

Yes I remember a twitter thread not that long ago where loads of lady’s called Annie were joking about how they all constantly get inflicted by comments: “Annie are you ok are you ok are you ok are you ok Annie?” (As I’m sure you already know it’s the Michael Jackson song Smooth Criminal). I’ll see if I can find the twitter thread to send the link.

It’s a great song though (so not a bad connection to have) and still gets a lot of play judging by the Spotify numbers ❤️

I really like the name but prefer simplicity of Anna or how about Anya?

greggers2017 · 31/12/2019 08:46

We wanted it for our DD but as she had potential to have ginger curly hair we changed our minds.

eveshopper · 31/12/2019 09:10

Their entire life until they were 7/8!
"Anne with an e" is a character in a children's book.
Anne of Green Gables.
Children like being the same as the heroine/hero in the stories they enjoy.

Oh. How ridiculous.

OP don't call you child Annie but put Anne on her bc I case she wants to be known as a book character Confused

NoSauce · 31/12/2019 09:54

Awful. So harsh sounding and dowdy. Like Edith and Ada. Anna, is so much nicer.

MikeUniformMike · 31/12/2019 11:26

I like it a lot. Would probably put Ann on the BC.

daisypond · 31/12/2019 11:33

I like it but much prefer Anna or Anne.

youngestisapsycho · 31/12/2019 11:36

@FluffyEggsontoast we ended up with Katy... the only name he liked on the other list 🤷🏼‍♀️

Ihaveamind · 31/12/2019 11:59

Lobsterquadrille2 she was the best ☺️
youngestisapsycho Katy is lovely and also a childhood heroine of mine "What Katy did" was another favourite!

FreezerBird · 31/12/2019 12:09

My DD is Annie. Have only ever had (quite overwhelmingly) positive reactions to the name - but then hopefully people who don't like it don't say so.

The only word of caution I'd say is about middle names. People seem wildly keen to hyphenate Annie so I have a lot of conversations along the lines of "no, she's not called Annie-Jo, she's called Annie. Jo is her middle name." (Not actually Jo, but you get the idea).

Thankfully she's now big enough to say that for herself. Quite sternly.

PrincessLouis · 31/12/2019 17:44

Love it but worry it’s a bit of a little girl’s name so would go for Anne or Anna on BC to give more grown up options if she chooses to use! Good luck Flowers

eveshopper · 31/12/2019 18:08

I baffled at the idea that Annie can't be a name for a grown up Confused

FreezerBird · 31/12/2019 18:19

I think there are a few names (particularly ones ending with an -ie sound) which people think of as 'babyish' but once someone has grown up with it, that's just their name, so it's fine.

Also combination with surname makes a difference - more than one person on hearing Annie with our surname commented "oh that's so cool, she should be famous when she grows up!" which is fairly bizarre but an indication it was cool not childish.

Also, Annie Lennox.

Spied · 31/12/2019 18:24

It's ok.
Anna is beautiful though.

Omashu · 31/12/2019 18:53

My mum is Anne with an E but she goes by Annie. We loved the Anne of Green Gables film series when I was growing up! Still love it now of course Grin

Omashu · 31/12/2019 18:55

@Ellecrawford

Do you know anything about the character? She’s a pretty great character to share a name with!

Boireannachlaidir · 31/12/2019 18:57

Love it Smile

eveshopper · 31/12/2019 19:00

Also, Annie Lennox.

Indeed. A grown up Ann who goes by Annie!

scrivette · 31/12/2019 19:20

I prefer Anna but it's a very nice name.
