Do you like it? What does it make you think of?

Also if anyone has any similar variations that would be great.

P.s. in case it’s not obvious, I forgot to add that it’s a girl’s name.

I don't mind it, but prefer Shoshana or Susannah. Would you be pronouncing it Shahna or Shayna?

AnnaSparks · 30/12/2019 16:28

I like the pronunciation Sh-ah-nah

It's pretty. You could also spell it Siana.

MikeUniformMike · 30/12/2019 16:32

It's fine. I know a Shanna. Don't spell it Siana as it looks unpronounceable.

Bobbiepin · 30/12/2019 16:34

It doesnt look like a full name to me but pretty as a nn for Shoshannah.

tamarisk44 · 30/12/2019 18:07

I read it as shay-na. Siana is nicer looking but wouldn't help with the pronunciation issue!

Savingforarainyday · 30/12/2019 18:12

I think that spelling would be pronounced Shayna/ Shaina

If you want Shaw na, then perhaps spell it Shawna ( common north American name/ spelling) or Seanna

Both lovely sounding names though

How about just Sian? Or Shona, which I like but I suspect its time hasn't quite come round again yet.

Shana sounds quite nice once you know how its pronounced, but my first instinct would have been to say Shayna.

puds11 · 30/12/2019 18:28

I had a friend with this name but spelled Sana which I prefer. Makes me think of her and she was ace!

percheron67 · 30/12/2019 18:33

Helpful if she wants to be a country and western singer.

Savingforarainyday · 30/12/2019 18:40

@percheron67
That would be Shania. Like Shan eye ah
🤣

corduroyal · 30/12/2019 18:42

I'd think it was a misspelling of Shane tbh. Not keen on made up names.

What's wrong with Hannah?

Bobbiepin · 30/12/2019 19:39

Oh I like Shanie

percheron67 · 30/12/2019 19:52

Saving for a rainy day. In a recent Country and Western series,, one of the singers was called SHANA. (as opposed to Shania Twain).

CareOfPunts · 30/12/2019 19:53

It’s no more than just alright

LastNameMarple · 30/12/2019 19:59

It’s a pretty sound, but it does look a bit ‘made up’ written down.

I don’t dislike it, but I do think Sian or Shoshannah are better.

BessMarvin · 30/12/2019 20:01

It makes me think of jem and the holograms, but that is pronounced differently to how you're planning.

Yika · 30/12/2019 20:04

I know one (pronounced Shayna). She is American and i think it's a veryAmerican-style name. However I think it's pretty, particularly with the Shahna pronounciation.

Greenandcabbagelooking · 30/12/2019 20:15

I teach a Sh Ann A and a Sh Ar na, but both spelt Shane. Neither name is to my taste, but they aren’t awful. If you like it, go for it.

SabineSchmetterling · 30/12/2019 20:21

I have only ever seen it spelled Siana or Sianna. I teach in a girls’ secondary school so have come across a few over the years. Nobody ever seems to have trouble knowing how to pronounce it. I think most people are familiar with the name Siân and can therefore work out Siana pretty easily. I think it’s pretty however you decide to spell it though.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 30/12/2019 21:01

Nice name. However with that spelling I’d struggle with the pronunciation. Is it
Shay-an Shan-a or Shar-na.
The Sian spelling for Sharn is a done deal, and as pp pointed out. It’s not hard to work out that you just put the A sound on the end.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 30/12/2019 21:02

So Siana would be the best spelling or maybe Sharna.
