DD name - help please

Help!
I thought we had nearly picked our DDs name (first child - scary thought how important naming is.. ) but now not sure...
We were thinking Georgia - but over the last couple months I have come across quite a few (most around 20yrs old) and realised how popular the name used to be (I'm an old first timer at 35 so never really paid attention to baby names in those years.... I dont really like names that are too popular (anything in the top 50 was out straight away) and while I am sure there are many lovely Georgias out there a couple of the ones I have now run into werent exactly great, so I am now very confused....
The only alternatives OH and I can agree on that I genuinely like are Eleanor (Nellie for nn) and Phillippa (Pip). Baby will have Baker as last name so very common which is another reason I dont want anything too popular - and DH doesnt like anything too far out here... argh.
Would appreciate some of your thoughts Georgia vs Philippa vs Eleanor?

Nellie and Pip are hideous, why do you need a nn?
My sister is Eleanor and it’s never been shortened in nearly 50 years.

OddshoesOddsocks · 22/12/2019 02:30

@Tinty Astrid is on my name list but dp has vetoed it Hmm I LOVE it though!

OP I think Eleanor and Georgia are both classics but I see your point, they are ‘names of their time’ really. My niece is a Georgina, Georgie for short and the only one I know (she’s 3).

RainbowMum11 · 22/12/2019 02:56

My Great-Grandma was called Eleanor nn Nellie.
My xfil called me Nellie, I love it!
Although, growing up it was an unusual name, there seem to be quite a few more around now.
Georgia is nice too - how about Georgiana (former Duchess of Devonshire.

Poorolddaddypig · 22/12/2019 05:50

LOVE Eleanor and Nellie is the best nickname! Georgia is fine, a bit meh. Strongly dislike Phillippa.

Mamabear88 · 22/12/2019 12:09

Eleanor is my favourite of the three. I wouldn't shorten it though. I know a Georgia and she's lovely so wouldn't let your recent run ins put you off, there will be nice and horrible people for every name. Hate Pip, sorry.

I also love names that were popular 20 years ago and didn't want a popular name so named my DD one so again wouldn't let that put you off if you like the name.

userabcname · 22/12/2019 12:36

I'd stick with Georgia. Eleanor is really popular. Really dislike Phillippa.

Philippa!

NannySusan · 23/12/2019 01:42

I really like Eleanor, but the only Nellie's I know are in their 80's.
I know an Ellie from Eleanor in her 40's and a toddler Nora from Eleanor.
If you plan on using Eleanor yourselves and a nick name will be for school/friends to choose if you don't hate Nora or Ellie it should be fine.

OceanSunFish · 23/12/2019 07:55

I know two Nellies- one in her 40s and a 6yo.

Georgiana?

BarleyG · 28/12/2019 10:15

Eleanor is my favourite name. I wanted to use it for my daughter 7 years ago and I still want to use it for my next daughter due in Feb. Neither time I have been allowed to, annoyingly!

My middle name is Phillippa and I have always hated it and avoided telling people as a child/teen Blush

Bullies picked up on it and called me Flipper (as in dolphin!)

Georgia is nice too

CustomerCervixDepartment · 28/12/2019 10:23

Two of those names are just men’s names with an extra letter shoved on, so in that vein- Paula, Alexandra, Michaela, Patrice, Roberta, Stevie,

BammBamm · 28/12/2019 19:25

My DD was going to be a Georgia, but I heard it shouted across the store in our local Tesco and it immediately put me off. It is a lovely name though. By rights, she should be Eleanor as DP won the draw (literally names out of a hat). He let me have my choice though as it's a family name that's been mentioned on this thread and we love it.
I dislike Philippa but that's because I've known two who I would rather forget Grin I also think your other name choices are much nicer.

BatleyTownswomensGuild · 28/12/2019 22:15

I like Phillipa but not sure it goes with Baker - endings area bit too samey.

JudgeMeNot · 28/12/2019 22:19

My DS's name has been in the top 20 for the past 26 years. I love his name. If you love the name Georgia then choose it. I actually know a 21 year old Georgia who is lovely. I also know Eleanors & Philippas of similar age (plus older)

RuthW · 28/12/2019 23:16

My dd is 22. When she was 7 she asked me why she wasn't called Georgia as she had 7 friends with that name. So you are correct with it being popular 20 years ago.

Namaste6 · 29/12/2019 22:49

Totally agree that Georgia is over used. Both Eleanor and Philippa (and their NN) are very pretty too. Have you thought about Esme / Violetta / Harriet ?
