Loosely-related Biblical name suggestions?

Hi! My husband and I are expecting our third child in March. My oldest son has a Biblical name (Thomas) and my younger son is Elliot, a name derived from Elijah, a Biblical name.

I’ve looked at traditional Biblical names and nothing sticks out to me, so I thought I’d see if anyone has any ideas for something that would be a derivative of a Biblical name (even loosely!) or has a spiritual or religious meaning (similar to how Elliot is from Elijah). I’m mostly looking for boy names but would also love girl names since we don’t know the sex!

Of course we don’t have to choose a name that is Biblical, but I think it’d be nice, especially because there’s not another name we already love.

I like the names Tobias and Timothy, but having 2 T names would just confusing- I already sometimes throw in the dog’s name when calling for my kids! Blush

Thanks for reading this! Please leave a note with any suggestions!

I like Isaac - the biblical meaning is "he will laugh". Joshua is a good name that's not used too much at the moment.
Elizabeth has lots of different nicknames, I like Lydia and Esther too.

Benjamin

Abel

Benjamin (esspecially a nice choice if you’re planning to have 3 children only and this will be the last baby as Benjamin is Jacob’s youngest son).

Emmanuel (very popular name in France. I love it - this one was on my last of potential names for DS though we choose another one).

Felix

Matthew

Joel

Tobias

Jabez for a boy, Tamar for a girl.

FriedasCarLoad · 21/12/2019 17:28

Eliza / Isabel / Isabella / Elspeth are all versions of Elizabeth.

Sally is a NN for Sarah.

Peter

...and Peter could become Piers.

Also Mary > Maria
John > Ian

I'd maybe avoid Tamar and Dinah, if your children are likely to ever read the Bible - unhappy connotations.

If you go for something Biblical it would be a good idea to do a quick Google search of the name just in case it comes from a deeply unpleasant character - eg Jezebel!

For girls I love Jemima and Keziah (the daughters of Job, the most beautiful women in the land)

I like Micah, Malachi and Gideon which are full on Bible names. I also love Gregory which is not a Bible name as such means "Watcher" or "Intercessor"

OP my kids both have biblical names and I love them! I’d suggest looking at saints names if you haven’t already, there are some lovely ones and still a nice connection to the other two Smile
