Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Rumbelow · 20/12/2019 20:17

No!

Zen? Zephyr? Zev?

Bjorksswandress · 20/12/2019 21:03

cotswoldmama the I in Zion is pronounced like eye as in what you see with.

Bjorksswandress · 20/12/2019 21:03

It rhymes with iron.

Cotswoldmama · 20/12/2019 21:22

Thanks @bjorksswandress ☺️

Savingforarainyday · 20/12/2019 21:26

Dear god, no

Puffykins · 20/12/2019 21:37

I know a 9-year old Zion and he's great, really great, so def a yay from me.

Hefzi · 20/12/2019 21:45

I know a lot of Ugandan Zions, and a few Rwandan ones as well - I personally associate it with Christians, though that's probably because the only Jews I know called it are Israeli and pronounce it "Tsee-on" as a result.

You say you grew up religious but aren't now: if that was Jewish religious, go for it. If it was Christian religious with an African background, go for it. Any other Christian background, as you no longer practice, I probably wouldn't. If you like the OT vibe, how about Noah, Abel, Elijah, Elisha, Nehemiah, David, Zachariah, Ruben, Solomon even?

Hefzi · 20/12/2019 21:47

Or Ahab, Ezra, Micah for that matter: Zerubabel is probably a bit much, though Wink

misspiggy19 · 20/12/2019 21:53

Reminds me of that Bob Marley song Iron, Lion, Zion

It’s a no from me

Arthritica · 20/12/2019 22:14

Oh HELL no. It’s too bound up in ideology and politics.

Astronica · 21/12/2019 02:15

No, too politically charged.

I know of a little Zebediah, nn Zeb.

scarednamechange · 21/12/2019 11:06

@IVflytrap thank you so much. You’ve just named a child Grin

OP posts:
gokartdillydilly · 21/12/2019 11:35

Oh no, it's truly awful.

IVflytrap · 21/12/2019 11:38

Yay! You're welcome - glad I could help Smile

Which name did you go for, if you don't mind me asking? (Fully understand if you'd rather not say, of course).

scarednamechange · 21/12/2019 11:43

Jethro! Absolutely love it! I understand this isn’t everyone’s cup of tea especially on MN (going by other threads) but I’ve fallen in love with it! Thank you very much Flowers

OP posts:
LemonPrism · 21/12/2019 11:43

So you're pro-Israel?

NoMorePoliticsPlease · 21/12/2019 11:43

Imagine the poor child at school, think ahead a bit. Parents want unusual names children do not

LemonPrism · 21/12/2019 11:45

I quite like Jericho but it does seem rather pro-Palestine or I would assume you were very religious

scarednamechange · 21/12/2019 11:50

@LemonPrism no

Bjorksswandress · 21/12/2019 13:32

I love Jethro. Different but not whacky. Suits all ages. Good nickname potential - Jet, Jeth, Jo etc. It’s fab imo.

SpockPaperScissorsLizardRock · 21/12/2019 13:35

I know an adult Zeon (as in Leon).

NeedToKnow101 · 21/12/2019 13:36

I think of it as a Rastafarian name.

Hefzi · 21/12/2019 14:45

Jethro is a brilliant name - and not very fashionable right now, which is always a bonus: when I was a child, I shared the same name (different spellings) with 5 others in a class of 18...

KaptainKaveman · 21/12/2019 14:52

Zion?
Kampuchea?
Biafra?
Stalingrad?

They're all great.

IVflytrap · 21/12/2019 16:03

@scarednamechange Ah, lovely! I really like Jethro - a biblical bame that doesn't really seem to have been discovered yet. The o ending is pretty cool too. (I like Jed as a potential nickname).

Best wishes to you and your son Smile
