Hi everyone, would love to know peoples opinions on Aurora or Athena. Slightly different but I also loved Georgiana growing up but now I’ve been told it’s a bit dated? Much appreciated!

I love Aurora, its a gorgeous name and I would probably use the nn Rory. I prefer Georgina to Georgiana, and I like Athena too x

SleepWarrior · 20/12/2019 13:11

They are all nice in my opinion. I've heard Aurora so much lately that I'd eliminate it on that basis.

Athena is great but do you have any Greek heritage or connections? There's nothing with using it even if you haven't, but I personally don't think I would. So assuming you haven't, I'd pick Georgiana, which is beautiful!

Thetimetravelerswife · 20/12/2019 13:15

All beautiful names. I prefer Georgina to Georgiana. Only because Georgiana seems overt flouncy to me. I think you can’t go wrong really.

NannyR · 20/12/2019 13:16

I love Aurora, which I associate with the northern lights, Athena is nice too. I'm always a bit unsure how to pronounce Georgiana - is it georgi-anna or georgi-ahna or I've heard georg- ayna too.

Kuponut · 20/12/2019 13:29

DD1's best friend/arch enemy (depending on what day or time of the day it is) is an Athena. Lovely name - but just make sure you're OK with how it sounds bellowed across the school playground in whatever the local accent is! Round here they tend to drag the living daylights out of the final a of it which drives me mad.

Tellmemaa · 20/12/2019 13:48

You’ve got a lovely taste in names OP! I like all of them and I don’t think you can go far wrong. I’ve never met any children with those names so I like how unusual they all are. Gun to my head, I’d pick Athena

sluj · 20/12/2019 13:51

I would avoid Aurora unless everyone you know can pronounce their 'Rs' properly and you can bear hearing her toddler friends mispronouncing it 😉

OceanSunFish · 20/12/2019 13:51

My favourite is Georgiana (nn Georgie). Aurora is lovely too. Not so keen on Athena.

PlantPotting · 20/12/2019 14:23

I love Aurora best 🥰 or Aurelia

Peachbubble · 20/12/2019 14:42

I prefer Athena

Modernhistorybuff · 20/12/2019 14:48

Georgiana is lovely.
Athena is ok but not uncommon where I live and sounds awful in our local advent.
Aurora is nice.
I would go for Georgiana as long as you're happy with Georgie or similar as a NN.

Morgomargot · 20/12/2019 14:48

I love Georgiana. Not keen on Aurora or Athena.

RandDandC · 20/12/2019 14:54

Aurora, love the nn Rory. I would have used it but there are loads round here

formerbabe · 20/12/2019 14:57

Georgiana is a bit of a mouthful

Don't like Aurora as can't imagine using it on a day to day basis.

Love Athena.... gorgeous name. It's unique yet classic.

nowaypose · 20/12/2019 16:04

I love Athena, there’s one in my DD’s class and I think it’s beautiful every time I hear it.

Moraliee · 20/12/2019 19:11

Hate Athena .just very weak sounding. Love the other 2

Ellmau · 20/12/2019 19:13

All really lovely names.

TatianaLarina · 20/12/2019 19:17

Like Aurora and Georgiana.

Athena although I like the goddess is 80s posters to me.

BowiesJumper · 20/12/2019 19:37

I’ve loved Georgiana since watching pride and prejudice in the 90’s! That would be my pick.

Carouselfish · 20/12/2019 19:37

I know an Athena aged 13. I like it.

Nonameyet1 · 20/12/2019 19:46

Georgina for me.

toomuchteaandcake · 20/12/2019 23:21

Definitely Georgiana

Astronica · 21/12/2019 02:12

Georgiana is gorgeous and my favourite. As it's 4 syllables it's likely often to be shortened - I love Georgie so that would be fine by me. Gigi is another possibility.
Aurora is also lovely, and quite a popular name at the moment.
Athena is okay.

diddlediddle · 21/12/2019 10:29

Athena by a mile. Lovely.

MamaFlintstone · 21/12/2019 10:34

I love Aurora written down but it always sounds clunky to me when spoken aloud. It’s not a pleasant combination of sounds in most accents.
