Hello !

I'm due a c section tommorrow with our second little girl.

We have decided on the name Lucy May, however can't seem to settle on the spelling.

Hubby wants to keep traditional/ simple spelling and wants to avoid continually correcting people on how to spell name, so here are the options any opinions appreciated

  1. Lucy May
  2. Lucy Mae
  3. Lucie Mae
  4. Lucie May

Thank you !

My name has an ‘ie’ instead of a ‘y’ which is the most common spelling and I spend my life saying ‘with an ie instead of a y’ and they still get it wrong, even when copying from forms I’ve completed. I’d stick with the most common spelling to make everyone’s life easier.

Hundredacrewoods · 19/12/2019 09:20

Definitely Lucy. If May is a middle name the spelling doesn’t really matter, and -Mae names are so common now that neither spelling would really be a problem imo.

Peachbubble · 19/12/2019 09:21

I'd go with Lucy May tbh. I've also had a lifetime of spelling out my name, and it's a pain.

BaronessBomburst · 19/12/2019 09:21

I've multiple Lucies and a Mae in my family going back generations, so those spellings aren't non-traditional.
Which do you prefer?
I'd have to use Lucie Mae, but I like Lucy May too.
I'm not so keen on the other two. That mixes the spellings so seems a bit odd.

Dls17950 · 19/12/2019 09:24

Thank you for you comments !

I have to admit I thought I would go for slightly different of Lucie Mae

However I'm am going more and more towards " Lucy May" this is my hubby's preference too.

Lucy definitely. Having to spell a name for people your whole life is really really annoying.
I don't think it matters as much for a middle name but May is much nicer than the other options.

EpcotForever · 19/12/2019 09:43

As another with an unconventionally spelt name, do it traditionally.

Dls17950 · 19/12/2019 09:46

Great help all !! Thank you !

Can now concentrate on other things !

Many thanks !

Lucy May.

It's really pretty. I'm not keen on Mae and with the Lucie - she will spend her life saying 'Lucy with an ie'

Thetimetravelerswife · 19/12/2019 11:44

Lucy may.

MummytoCSJH · 19/12/2019 12:23

One of my sisters is Lucy May. It's nice spelt that way.

spiderlight · 19/12/2019 14:09

Lucy May. Our DS has the slightly less common of two spellings of his name and we've spent the last twelve years correcting it almost daily.

safariboot · 19/12/2019 14:11

Another to say that having a less common spelling of a name is a complete pain in the arse.

Lucy all the way.

DramaAlpaca · 19/12/2019 14:12

Lucy May is the nicest, it's simple and pretty.

All the others look fussy.

MikeUniformMike · 19/12/2019 14:19

Lucy May. Not keen on May as a middle name as it's one of the current go tos - the others being Rose and Grace. Mae is a bit tacky.
Lucie i not incorrect, just less conventional, so will be misspelt a lot.

Dls17950 · 19/12/2019 14:29

We already have a Sophia Rose

So Lucy May it is then

Thanks

Lucy May.

BonBon411 · 19/12/2019 19:09

I love Lucie Mae!

PlantPotting · 19/12/2019 23:08

Lucy May is perfect . Glad we helped you decide @Dls17950

DinoSn0re · 19/12/2019 23:10

I like Lucy Mae the most, but it’s a pretty combination whichever spellings you go for.

HavelockVetinari · 19/12/2019 23:13

Lucy May. It's terrible to say this, but spelling it "Mae" is very "common".

BikeRunSki · 19/12/2019 23:18

I'd go with Lucy May tbh. I've also had a lifetime of spelling out my name, and it's a pain.

Glad to see you've decided - Lucy May is clear winner for me too. I like Lucie too, but not Mae.
