Girl Name Inspiration?

bananamonkey · 17/12/2019 10:29

Have found out DC2 is going to be a girl and could do with some name inspiration. I dug out the list I had for DD1 but nothing is standing out, can anyone suggest any names along these lines?

I like names that are a little quirky but DH is more traditional, also love French names although we have no connection. DD1 is Emilia.

Amber - not sure I like this anymore
Astrid - nope
Audrey
Betsy - used for DD1's middle name, I really wanted it to be her first name but DH chickened out
Camille
Carys - love this but we're not Welsh so would it be weird?
Edith - too common?
Elodie - too similar to DD?
Greta
Ingrid - love this but may be too old lady?
Margot - used by someone I know this year
Milly - too similar to DD1
Nina
Orla - too common?
Romy
Romilly - Love it but DH hates it
Violet - my favourite I think?

@FizzyGreenWater actually the only Genevieve I know is Ginny which I think is gorgeous. Could also be shortened to eve which is equally lovely.
Also I know two violets and one is shorted to vee and the other lettie.

Thetimetravelerswife · 17/12/2019 19:33

Amber - Too 90s and a bit American stripper?
Astrid - no too harsh
Audrey- love! So classy
betsy- really dislike unless short for Elizabeth
Camille- prefer Camilla.
Carys - dislike
Edith - too old lady
Elodie - it’s ok.
Greta- ok
Ingrid - too strong
Margot- like
Milly - too nicknamey
Nina- only as a nn
Orla - oral
romy- no
Romilly - Ok
Violet - lovely

mathanxiety · 17/12/2019 19:53

Love Carys, Ingrid, Greta, Violet, Romy and Edith.

You don't have to be Welsh to use a Welsh name, imo. Same goes for French.

Romilly, Millie, Camille and Emilia are all too similar.

I'm not keen on the other names.

FizzyGreenWater · 17/12/2019 20:03

@passthetea yes Ginny's good - I also knew a Vivie which I loved, but reluctantly took Genevieve off my list as I would just hate Gen/Jen, and you can't control nicknames of course. I guess you could plug Ginny/Vivi relentlessly and hope it sticks!

SoftBlocks · 17/12/2019 20:08

Manon is great. Also Colette?

Loveislandaddict · 17/12/2019 20:09

Daniella
Brigitte
Louisa
Maria

Ha ha I actually love the nn Vi, I hadn’t realised so many names were like marmite Grin

Carys is out then which is a shame as it is beautiful.

I do like Louise and Natalie without any context but as a child of the 80s nearly every other girl was one of these. We’ve also managed to cover my DSis and SiL in these lists!

Ingrid was a bit Scandi inspired as I knew a Swedish Ing-Sofie which I thought was so lovely. But maybe it is for Nanas 🤔

The Gen/Jen thing does put me off Genevieve a bit. I love Celeste and Bette, will add them to the list.

I spend so much time saying “That’s Emilia with an E” for my poor DD that I think it’d end up similar with Alivia with an A. Shame as I’m keen on Liv/Livvy.

Thank you all!

Lynette
Emilia and Lynette work well together. as a girls' name is pronounced le-NET. The meaning of the name is bird in Anglo-Saxon and in Celtic the meaning is grace.
It could also be Lynetta?

MUMUNATORR · 17/12/2019 22:01

oh and actually Lynette has a french meaning which being idol!

How about Linnea? Or Léonie?

I think Elodie works well with Emilia, despite it being the same initial.

girlsname · 20/12/2019 10:31

Violet is far more common that Edith? Though it is a nice name. I used to think it just sounded like 'violent' but it's grown on me
