What are your thoughts on Agatha for a girl?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
daisypond · 15/12/2019 11:13

I’m not keen. I want to like it but I don’t. I prefer Agnes.

7Worfs · 15/12/2019 11:14

I like it

ladycarlotta · 15/12/2019 11:29

Expect some negativity, OP, because some people REALLY don't like 'old lady' names, but it is really growing on me. Aggie is a sweet nickname and Agatha is very elegant and classic.

PineappleDanish · 15/12/2019 11:30

I know an Italian little girl called Agata.

I like it much better than Agnes.

ADogInTheManger · 15/12/2019 11:36

It's an incredibly ugly name.

indigo13 · 15/12/2019 11:56

I like it, reminds me of the cute baby in Nanny McPhee

Omashu · 15/12/2019 12:31

Ooh no aggie is an awful nickname! Reminds me of the word claggy which is awful and also ‘aggy’ is slang for aggravated/aggravating so I’d avoid that nickname. Agatha is an awful name in general to me but if you like it, go for it.

strawberry2017 · 15/12/2019 12:34

Reminds me of Miss Trunchbull from Matilda - not a fan sorry

hiptobeasquare · 15/12/2019 12:36

I love Agatha, it was on my short list for girls. We went with Anne in the end.

roiseandjim · 15/12/2019 12:36

I like it!

Spied · 15/12/2019 12:39

I like it.
Classical.

Moraliee · 15/12/2019 12:56

Hideous sorry

smemorata · 15/12/2019 12:57

Love it.

DotBall · 15/12/2019 13:06

Love it. Aggie for short.

Everythingmagnolia · 15/12/2019 13:40

Really ugly

Saharafordessert · 15/12/2019 13:47

Definitely no.

halcyondays · 15/12/2019 13:48

It’s awful, sorry.

Poorolddaddypig · 15/12/2019 14:38

I also really want to like it but just can’t quite do it. The world isn’t ready for the comeback of either Agatha or Agnes imo

Peachbubble · 15/12/2019 14:44

I like it, and Agnes.

EllenRipley · 15/12/2019 14:46

Love it!

Haworthia · 15/12/2019 14:47

I do love an old lady name but I can’t get on board with Agatha. It doesn’t sound nice. And any shortening is awful too - Aggie, Aggs, Aggro, etc Grin

midsomermurderess · 15/12/2019 14:48

I think it's lovely. Well, maybe not lovely, it has a certain elegant austerity that appeals to me.

LuckyMarmiteLover · 15/12/2019 14:48

Love it!

Not111 · 15/12/2019 14:48

Love it!!

rhubarbcrumbles · 15/12/2019 14:49

Lovely, well overdue a return. I don't think I know any young Agathas so it's not going to be a name you hear a lot in school either.
