Rumbelow · 09/12/2019 00:18

We seem to have a real thing for er-ending names for DD due early next year. On our tentative list right now are:

Piper
Clover
Rumer
Winter (due late Jan)
Aster
Vesper

As well as a few others, like Greta, Fern, Lumi, Rumi, Cleo.

Interested to hear your preferences and any other names we might like.

Thank you

As a January baby myself don't go with Winter unless you plan to nickname her something like Winnie.
Piper is cute and classic
Not a fan of Vesper, Clover and Aster.

Greta a adorable but if you wanted to end with an -er I've always loved the name Carter for a girl. So many boys names would make adorable girls names but most don't dare. Based on your list of names it seems you aren't too worried about being daring with your daughters name.

TLBftm · 09/12/2019 00:26

When I was pregnant, if I were to have a girl I loved piper! Was my number 1! DP wasn’t as keen so we agreed on pippa instead and I love that too. Another name I loved was sienna but DPs friends niece is called sienna so apparently that was a no go 🙄 other names I like are Lottie, willow, nelly and Matilda.

Turns out I had a boy so none of those were relevant but on your other name choices... we have a Greta at baby group and I LOVE that! Vesper... isn’t that a snake? And I don’t like clique names like winter. Others are okay but wouldn’t pick them myself.

Florence is another cute name I like :)

Staffori · 09/12/2019 00:26

The only ones I really like out of your list are Greta and Cleo.

ShinyDolphin · 09/12/2019 00:30

Piper - ok
Clover - ok but a bit boho for my taste
Rumer - not keen
Winter (due late Jan) - not keen
Aster - dislike
Vesper - not keen
Greta - dislike
Fern - quite nice
Lumi - hmm not sure on this one!
Rumi - ok
Cleo - love!

How about Remy, Hester, Emme, Thea, Demi, Effie, Juniper, Lina, Suri, Esther

Breakfastoptions · 09/12/2019 00:31

The only name I like from your list is fern.

DramaAlpaca · 09/12/2019 00:34

Piper is 'cute & classic'? Cute maybe to some people, but classic it definitely is not. I really dislike that name, alongside Rumer. I always think of Winter as a surname and I don't like it as a first name as it'll end up being Winnie, which is hideous. Greta is quite hard sounding, and I'm not mad on Lumi or Rumi either.

From your first list I love Aster, and I quite like Vesper and Clover too, although they may be more problematic (think scooters and spread, unfortunately)

I also really like Fern & Cleo.

What I find very refreshing about your list is that there's nothing remotely twee or cutesy on there, they are all strong but feminine names.

WWlOOlWW · 09/12/2019 00:34

You can't call a kid Vesper. All the others are fine and down to personal taste.

AutumnCrow · 09/12/2019 00:42

Vesper is a scooter not a snake. You're thinking viper / adder / asp all rolled into one.

OP, Have you considered a kind of festive, wintery Drummer? Or Singer?

Ellmau · 09/12/2019 00:43

Aster's the only one I like from your list.

What about Hester?

IceBearRocks · 09/12/2019 01:10

Cleo is a terrible name .....mine is nearly 9!! stop over using an amazing name...
When people ask how we decided her name .I tell them she was conceived in the back of one!

Plaintainchipss · 09/12/2019 01:16

Piper-cute
Clover cow, dislike
Rumer- meh
Winter(due late Jan)- not terrible but season names are not the most “professional”
Aster-meh, don’t really like how it sounds
Vesper-no

As well as a few others, like
Greta- frumpy

, Fern- quite nice
Lumi - no, doesn’t sound like a name
Rumi- nice, Beyoncé
Cleo - also nice

A few of the names are def no no FOR ME mainly Vesper, Clover and Greta. The rest I suppose are based onpersonal taste.

sproutsandparsnips · 09/12/2019 01:25

I'm not sure but I think Vesper is to do with evening from the Latin? And a Bond villainess?
Vespa is the scooter (from wasp)

BigFatBloomers · 09/12/2019 01:30

Doner Grin

DramaAlpaca · 09/12/2019 01:32

Vesper is a prayer. And of course, a Bond girl.

Ginandplatonic · 09/12/2019 01:45

I really dislike Piper and Rumer. In no way is Piper classic.

Don't like Winter or Clover much.

Vesper is too Bond-girly

I like Aster, it's a flower name but rare and strong-sounding.

Of your others I like Fern a lot, Cleo and Greta are ok, dislike the others.

Ginandplatonic · 09/12/2019 01:47

But I would probably avoid Greta if you are not meaning to name her after Greta Thunberg - you will get sick of the assumptions.

SoftBlocks · 09/12/2019 01:52

Sorry the only one I like is Cleo!

MarySidney · 09/12/2019 01:55

Clover - ok but a bit boho for my taste

Clover was Katy's sister in the Katy books. A sweet girl, a bit too sweet and nice in the later books.

coffeeandrainbows · 09/12/2019 02:15

I love Piper (have one nn Pippi) and Vesper.

Aster, Cleo and Fern are also nice.

I really like PP suggestion of Thea and Emme.

Discobabe98 · 09/12/2019 02:22

I like Rumer but people will hear it and assume you’ve named your child rumour.

I also like Lumi and Cleo.

How about River? There’s Parker too but tends to have mixed reviews

QuiteForgetful · 09/12/2019 02:23

Piper & Greta are my top choices from your list, but I do like most of your potential names.

RonaldMcDonald · 09/12/2019 02:27

Samantha

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 09/12/2019 02:27

Clover is a bit bovine.

Aster and Vesper are pretty.

What about:
Demeter
Esther
Amber
Juniper
Heather

bxua · 09/12/2019 02:38

got so much hate on this one because of the brand but I really love the name Cartier I think it sounds and looks so pretty

Wombatstew · 09/12/2019 02:39

Silva / Silver / Sylva
